Depends on how much you want to spend. I bought a bottle of huuraderra suprema selection for 145.00 a couple years ago. It sells for 375.00 a fifth in Oregon. Holy shit. I bring it out for a few sips on Christmas. It is the smoothest liquor I've ever tasted. And that's a bold statement for a confirmed scotch drinker. I always am looking for a really good extra anjeo. Cabo wabo has one. Most of the big name distilleries do. Once you sip (please don't shoot this stuff!!) this stuff it'll change you drinking life.

I might do one bottle like that, it's just I don't know what names to look for. Thanks for the suggestion! Typically though I'd be looking in the $50 range to make AWESOME margaritas. The ones that have mostly tequila, a splash of lime juice and maybe a little grand marnier.

Grandma is a bargain at the airport at $30/L. We bought one on arrival to leave behind the bar at Patty-O's, and another couple to bring home when we left.

    Have to say -

There is no sense in making a margarita with a $50 tequila. We do have cheaper tequila prices out in here in California than a lot of places but $50 tequila is built for sipping. Stuff has been aged in a Oak barrel for at least a year and smoothed and mellowed out.

We like the bright flavor of a Blanco/unaged tequila in margaritas. Compliments the lime juice well.

Our favorite bargain tequila in the $20 - $30 range is Gran Centenario in the Resposado or Anejo variety. Amazing for the price!

Don Julio Blanco raised its prices recently to near $0 a bottle and we can't justify that for a shooter tequila. The Don Julio Anjeo is our favorite sipping tequila. Stuff is amazing and well worth the $50- $60 price tag.
