last trip...100 Anos is the best they had...not great...but better than El Jimador.. as a person who only drinks straight tequila on the rocks...( no one believes me ) haha.. I know it goes against the All Inclusive concept... but stop at Duty free, just after Immigration and buy a bottle of CORRALEJO.. a tall blue bottle .... about 30 bucks U.S. almost as good as Patron but cheaper... probably the best bang for the buck you will find...Milagro is pretty good as well, and a little cheaper
Self proclaimed tequila snob reporting in - Cuervo gold is crap. It's 51% Agave unaged tequila and 49% neutral grain alcohol (vodka). They then add food coloring to it to make it gold so you think it was aged. Stay away! We call this mixto tequila and its crap! 100 Anos, Milagro, El Jimador & if your Premier they will give you Cuervo Tradcional. Milagro is only sometimes available. All of the above brands are 100% Agave tequila. If it says silver or blanco or plata it is unaged, a bit more harsh and tastes more like raw agave as it has no oak in it. If it is golden in color and says Resposado, it means rested in an Oak barrel for 2-11 months. If it is a bit darker gold in color and says Anejo, it means it was rested in an oak barrel for a minimum of 12-months. Resort primarily only stocks silver tequila, however they should have El Jimador Resposado & if your lucky you will spy a reddish bottle of Milagro that is a Resposado as well. For shots: Order your preferred and ask for a sangrita back, bartender will give you a shot of tequila and a shot glass filled with tomato/clamato juice & a squeeze of lime. Shoot the tequila, feel the burn and then shoot the sangrita. El Jimador is the best selling tequila in all of Mexico. Patron is stupid overpriced, my favorite budget Tequila is Gran Centenario - About $20 - $25 and damn good!
I like Gran Centenario as well. However Don Julio 1942 is my favorite by far. It should only be sipped neat...wouldnt want to ruin the taste! Some less expensive than the 1942 that I like are Casa Noble and Herradura. I also agree about Patron...lots of better tequilas besides it. However they did a great job with their marketing. Cheers Will
All that said, if you're going to drink tequilla, take GandC's advice and stop at the liquor store in the airport and buy whatever brand you want. It will be a good investment.
I'm going to ask you to remind me of the names of these Tequilas in October so I can take 1 or 2 home!
Joe if you want a really good tequila Don Julio 1942 is excellent. It is a little pricey...I pay about $120 here. Ive neve checked on it in Cancun but will see if they have it at the airport this trip. Will
I will have some with me when you see me, then you can test it... Cheap tequila makes people sit on step all night...haha I will buy at least one bottle and most likely 2 on way in..... I will post pic also if you would like. Corralejo... by far the best tequila that most people have never tried. cant wait to party with everyone that is going to be there in Oct
There is also never any real guarantee that what it says on the outside of the bottle, at the pool bar, is actually whats inside the bottle.
