Damn, I wish that was the case. Tickets were $676 direct from Philly today. They pretty much always run between 500-700. Even if you try to do one of the options that isn't direct, there isn't much savings for what would be a huge pain in the ass and a 15 hour travel day.
Luckily, we barely live within driving distance to Houston (7hrs). It's a direct 2hr flight from there, so about a 10hr travel day in all. Prices increase dramatically as you get away from Houston.
BTW - you can't fit much into a single backpack. However, Patti doesn't seem to be having much trouble.
The last few trips we have done AA out of Philly but there have been numerous times when we drove the extra hour to BWI and flew Southwest Air direct to Cancun. I always check both of those before booking. Firm

Thanks for the tip. I will look into them in the future. I never think about Baltimore. I have done the Newark airport before though. Just out of curiosity I just looked and BWI wasn't much cheaper for our dates.
