I remember that Steve. The first time we went the activities was in Embaradero. That was in Nov, and by July they had moved it. The activities were crowded in that little area. It was hot as hell when they were doing something like the ladies legs, etc. But let me tell you, it was the best nightlife at BBG. It was a blast. We mention that alot to newer repeaters, about how much fun it was. But I don't know if I agree with the since Enrique left. And ya, the early nice shoes was almost as much fun as the embarcadero time period.
Good old El Embarcadero..........just saying that makes me start to sweat. Though the nite life was much better back then. I know they got there reasons why they kind of shut things down but in reality would it be that hard to just let the DJ lead some afterhour (after the buses leave to the clubs) games. At least by doing one game that they actually put on there activity board (promote it) it would bring people to Nice Shoes and with the music going it would keep a nice little party going in there each night. I honestly don't think it would have much negative effect (less people) on the people going to the clubs. Most people I'm sure only hit the clubs 1 or 2 times each visit. Plus by doing this it would get rid of one common compliant that has been popping up in trip reports for years now. Nick and Renee
OK.. first I will agree that the 1st hour of music is lame. Always has been. But for simplicity sake, let's take the music choice off the table cause we could go on about that for hours. But if you look at the Embarcadero venue versus the old Nice Shoes the sheer size difference made it a different atmosphere. Think about it. In the Embarcadero if you had 10 people on the dance floor it was full. 16 and it was packed. At the old Nice Shoes you could have 30 on the dance floor and it still looked empty. Let's take Sr. Frogs for example. It's always hopping, no pun intended. But have you ever noticed the walls there? They are like garage doors. As the crowd shrinks, the walls come down and the club gets smaller. Hence it's always packed and always a fun party. So I don't think there is less of a party in Nice Shoes now as much as it's a bigger place and the party looks smaller. Also in Embarcadero people could come in and sit down and enjoy the show at a bar while others were dancing away. At the old Nice Shoes once they took the little tables out it wasn't a "hang out" friendly place. Hopefully the new Nice Shoes addressed that. We shall see. Jamie
Seating is not a problem at the new Nice Shoes. I think the location is. It is behind the Alternative bar (which we did not even know was there our first trip) and is sort of out of the way...you have to actually go look for it. I like the new Nice Shoes, think if they had table service it would be a huge plus, the no smoking (I smoke) policy is great, but even in Feb it was HOT in there. What I don't like is that it is inside. We spent more time at Paty O's because we wanted to be outside, we wanted table service and it was more centrally located (LOL down the stairs from our room). The couple of nights we did spend in Nice Shoes we had fun...had a bunch of people dancing (and no one even fell off the dance floor), sat around talking some and were actually chased out of the place.
The Night Life Well I think I agree with a bit of what everyone is saying...this year was my 6th trip to TTR. Each year the night life seems to be different. Last year the out door nice shoes bar was nice, the music was good, but it was hit or miss as far as the crowd. I thought they were moving the Nice shoes bar back there, to reduce the noise and keep the party going longer...I understand how some people would say that since its an all inclusive resort, they would like to have something to do at the resort during the evening hours. Most nights this year a bunch of us would end up having some drinks and hanging out in the Tex/Mex restaurant, just talking and entertaining ourselves (which isnt always bad) but i guess no matter what the Hotel does, they wont please everyone, so a lot of decisions will probably be Trial and Error with the new managment.
I know at other resorts we've stayed at, we were just happy to drink and hang out with a bunch in the hot tub after evening activities died down. I was really surprised and disappointed there was no hot tub to be found!
