Coming to Cancun w/husband and child 6yrs old. Flight doesn't arrive until 7:30pm. Was thinking about taking a taxi from the airport to the Westin where we are staying. My understanding is that it should be about $25 since we are just about the first hotel from the airport.

Question is, is there an OXXOS where we can stop along the way to pick up some bottled water/cokes? I understand there isn't a market close to the Westin and we will be leaving on a Chichen Itza tour at 7:30am the next morning, so I'd like to have some cokes etc to take with us.

Is that doable? What should it cost to ask the driver to make an extra stop?

Much appreciate the help. We are coming in two weeks and are counting the days.

I know there is one little shop a few hotels from you, across the street on lagoon side, but sorry can't remember name of it. My best estimate would be that it is across from the Cancun Plaza and Aristos Cancun hotels.

May be within walking distance for you if taxi driver isn't cooperative. We stay at Solymar, which is seven hotels up from Westin, and we often walk to this shop to stock up on beer, water, soft drinks, etc.

If you're talking about taking a private taxi from the Cancun airport with the taxi service there, Greenline, it is $53.00
I suggest pre-arranging your transportation with
www.entertainment-plus.net, it is only $35.00 from the airport to your hotel.
There's a convenience store across from Sun Palace, which is 4 hotels up from the Westin.
I'd get to the hotel then got out and walk up to the store or jump on the bus.

Thanks for the information. That is exactly what I needed to know. I greatly appreciate the help and will arrange for transfers rather than a taxi.

There are a couple of 7/11's / OXXO's etc along the road from the airport to downtown but if you're staying at the Westin then you wont take that road.

I think you'll need to ask the driver to overshoot the Westin to the nearest one (I dont think there any before the Westin) as Laura mentions. If you use Entertainment Plus I'm sure the driver wont mind.. give him a little extra on his tip though.

Alternatively you could buy your stuff at the airport before getting your ride, although like all airports the prices are marked up.

Laura is suggesting private transportation as opposed to a shuttle. Entertainment Plus provides you with a private van for your party. You can book it online and even can private chat with my buddies Trina or Aracelli. You could ask them about a quick stop at a convenience store to grab some water, soda, etc. Don't forget to tip your driver.

Thanks again for the info. Really, really appreciate the help. We are going to book the private transfers and I think we are going to book the Chichen Itza tour with them also for convenience.

I have been to Cancun and will definitely tip anyone of service. I know they are still trying to recover from the hurricane and we'll do our part to spend some tourist dollars while we are there!

    Westin

We stay at the Westin most of the time and yes there is a little store not far to walk to on the lagoon side. I think they also sell refreshments at the little gift shop in the lobby.

Be sure to say Hi from Jimmy and Faith to our bartenders, Javiea, Carlos, big and little Jorge. We miss them
