Went 3 times, 15 min each time and can barely tell. No wonder I never burn when out on the boat. Time to crank it up to 25 min. Too bad I can't do naked ice fishing to get a tan. At least my face is tan. I've had 3 different beds and the owners of the place at a bit surprized. How long is everyone doing per time? Maybe more beer will help. At least my ice fishing diet is working. Since end of Dec down 37 pounds with no working out, just ice fishing. 3 lbs. to go and back to high school weight. Just no 6 pack yet but carrying less than a 12 pack. Glad the case is gone. LOL.

I usually just get red when I go (even applying SPF 50 or higher often)...... but I learned from tanning first.... at least 10-15 times before I go.... my casper looking ass actually gets tanned in Mexico! lol.

Just keep in mind this tidbit: Don't think that just because you tan first(even if you get really dark)..... don't think that you don't need any suntan lotion down there. You will be very unpleasantly surprised lol.

I made a bet with my ex.... who was a gorgeous African American man. He told me he didn't need suntan lotion no matter WHERE he was,.... of course... "Because I'm black", he said. I told him..... not so! Everyone who has skin, needs suntan lotion! lol. He definitely paid for it in ONE day lol. Not only did he almost cry from his skin "sizzling" as he called it... but he was soooooo mad because he said that he was dark enough to blend in with the night. lol. He was a very funny guy.

So regardless of tan or skin color.... like others said..... make sure you wear SPF. I only use SPF 15 on my face and SPF 30 on my body, because I still want some color. Here in USA, they make SPF 85 and someone said they saw 90 or something crazy like that. That will protect you the most, but you won't get a lick of color. Keep in mind that a good tip to use (as mentioned on "The Doctors" show as well), whatever the SPF number is... is how often you have to reapply it. SPF 15 = every 15 minutes. SPF 30 = every 30 minutes. Duhhh lol okay I'm not going to insult your intelligence! :D

    Another thing!
    SPRAY tanning lotion:
Although this is a GREAT invention for lazy people like myself.... I will NEVER use it or even allow myself to be around someone who uses it EVER again. Does it work? Absolutely. Why don't I like it? Well it takes the color off of anything plastic or of the sort. I had a black claw clip holding my hair up, my glasses on the table next to my chair, and my phone face down so the sun wouldn't damage the screen. I sprayed it.... and I was trying to figure out where the black and pink was coming from all over my hands. It completely was stripping the color off of everything. My clip is no longer shiny and black. It went from glossy black to a very dull, whitish brown. My glasses were ruined. My cell phone cover..... well lets just said I'm happy it was my cover and not the phone, but I had to purchase a new one!
Just thought I'd give you guys a heads up about that one!

    Moral of the story?

-Tan before you go at least 10-15 times if you want to get DARKER not REDDER when you are there... but you still must use SPF. The lower the SPF, the more often you must reapply(especially after toweling off), but that will allow you to get darker while still protecting yourself, as tedious as it may be to constantly reapply tanning lotion every 15-30 minutes. If you want to come home almost the same color as you left..... Use SPF 85 (I think it's made by Coppertone but I'm sure other companies make it)
-Try to stay away from spray tanning lotions if you treasure your possessions.

    Also:
-Try not to fall asleep in the sun or pass out after long batches of shots... lol. or at least have good friends who will put the "hand print" or "smiley Face" tanning lotion trick on your back for a good painful memory, lol jk.

I tanned about 20 times since January. I leave in like 60 hours. I won't be able to tan today and I doubt I'll be able to tomorrow. Hopefully I can tan Monday before we leave for our midnight flight! I went in like 5 days ago for 15 minutes, and didn't burn, itch, or anything! I was shocked! I think if I CAN go tomorrow... I'll try 16.... and if still no itching or burning I'll do 17 in the laydown on Monday!

Seems like once you get a really good tan in Mexico once you'll tan better for the next few years! lol. (Maybe it's because I was there 2 weeks last year, my skin was able to adapt to it? IDK! lol)

Sorry for the long ass post! Just wanted to share my side/stories!

Can't wait to meet you awesome people! So jealous of those already there!

Bday in 36 hours...... departure for airport in 60 hours! :D

Have a great trip! The tanning salon we go to has several different levels of tanning beds - with corresponding prices - The max time on them is 12 mins on some and 15 mins on others. WI Fun sun, if you aren't tanning in the bed, are you using lotion with bronzer? There are lotions specific for tanning beds. I've been about 4 times and I've gotten a ton of color. Although I think I will need to lay on my side before the white strips down my side become too noticeable. They have a stand-up one but that one creeps me out since you are 100% enclosed in it and I am a bit claustrophobic. Wish I was leaving tomorrow but I have two months to color up and work the extra jiggle off!

I would like to throw my two cents in on this one Hammie if you don't mind. I have been a suncare advisor here in Cancun for almost 1 year and I want to set some items straight, so you and others can maximize your efforts.....

Not only did he almost cry from his skin "sizzling" as he called it... but he was soooooo mad because he said that he was dark enough to blend in with the night. lol. He was a very funny guy.- People of all colors get skin damage and skin cancer. That is the purpose of sun lotions. To protect against harmful rays.... and you get a better tan when you use a lotion, even if it's only a 2. But I would never recommend anyone to go that low

:D - You should actually be using 30 on your face, chest, shoulders and upper back (the boney areas) and SPF15 everywhere else. I will get into the SPF's at another point you make, but in the end, anything above a SPF 30 offers you no more protection then a 200 (yes there is such a thing), just more burns. All sunscreens need be be reapplied in the tropics every 30-45 min. Doing so, using a 30 on your body will block all rays and you will go home the same color you got here. And the SPF numbers you indicate work in those intervals back north of the border...not here.

    Another thing!

Just thought I'd give you guys a heads up about that one! - More importantly, those sprays are alcohol based and dries out your skin. Dry skin burns faster and loses any color faster. Stick to lotions and oils for maximum moisturzation. And we all should be using the buddy system anyway. And half your money flys off in any breeze. Total waste of $

    Moral of the story?

-Tan before you go at least 10-15 times if you want to get DARKER not REDDER when you are there... but you still must use SPF. -Try to stay away from spray tanning lotions if you treasure your possessions. - This is the BIG one I have to get into every 5 min of every day!!!! SPF 0f 25/30 is a maximum block. All the higher number, up to 200, do not offer you any more protection then the 25/30. What it does offer you is more waxes and mineral oils that will fry you in a tropical climate. People who burn in patches, get heat rashes or prickly heat are always using factors above 30. Don't buy into their scare tactics. Kids are dehydating on the higher #'s cause their pours are clogged of those ingredients

    Also:
-Try not to fall asleep in the sun or pass out after long batches of shots... lol. or at least have good friends who will put the "hand print" or "smiley Face" tanning lotion trick on your back for a good painful memory, lol jk. - do not sit for 5 or 6 hrs each day in the sun. every 2 hrs give yourself a good long break in the shade

I hope you are not offended by what I am saying. I deal with so much trama daily cause people are doing things a little wrong for the climate here. That is why I am here for ppl. Seems like a simple process, but this sun is anything but simple!!!!!!

Have a happy and sun safe holiday!!!!!

I agree with some and would like to respectfully disagree with some lol. Thats why i made my post in the first place. I didn't want to be an asshole and "correct" yours to what we are taught here.

I was just putting my two cents in.... but to each their own. Even top experts of certain categories will all have different opinions an evaluations of things..... not saying I'm an expert.... just saying that no one is wrong in this scenario.

I lay out from 7:30am-5pm-ish with the exception of lunch in the middle. I've never burned like that. Maybe I'm just lucky? idk. I got sun poisoning REALLY bad my first time there ever.... even had to get a shot in my ass and soak in ice cold hotel towels for 4 of my 7 days :( I learned the hard way and now just want to prepare others.

Since the 15 on the face and 30 on the body has been working for me.... that's what I'm sticking to :D The 15 one actually says its for your face too and it's oil free! CHEERS! lol

to each their own... but I'm as white and Casper-like as they get! :D

Well, went out ice fishing in the high sun for 9.5 hours and finally have some color in my face. Wish it was warmer I would be been in shorts. Another person out there had major sun burn on their face after 2 hrs. Time to start twice a week for 20 min.

Not relevant but WI Funsun I totally thought of you guys this morning. My mom was watching Jeff Foxworthy and he was talking about how people go ice fishing. He said his friends invited him but he said no because it's "too cold". They replied back with "no its cool we build a bonfire on the lake.' (or something of the sort).... he was like... yeah I'm thinking to myself.... mmmm thats smart! Bonfire on a FROZEN lake! lol.

Hammie, I use the same as you, except the 15 on my face is the Clean & Clear Pore Minimizer or something.. it has a purple lid, but its for your face, and its spf 15.. and my body I use 25 only for the first 2 days, then I use nothing.. and I don't burn.. I agree with most of what you posted Hammie.. from my personal experience.. and my friends son uses spf 50 & never gets dehydrated
