This has been a fun topic to read! We often talk of sharing this adventure with local friends! We talk ourselves out of it though mainly because we fear they will slow us down by clinging on and that sort of thing. We did go on a group vacation to Riu Palace in CSL and that was a mistake because all the drama and won't do that again. Some how I guess we think its just better the two of us.
We have wrestled with this too....and always conclude the same. Better to travel light. Don't want to babysit or be the blame of others' misery. Traveled with real close friends years and years ago (not TTR) and it was nothing but problems. Went on cruise with family and that was stressfull and trying. Went to Chicagi Bluesfest with a gang of 8 and it was hard to co-ordinate. Slowed everything down constantly waiting or meeting up. Did a week at Mt Tremblant with 8 friends in a slopeside condo and evn that had drama. So we know it would have to be real special friends if we ever brought pals to TTR.
My man Sheldon, where in the hexx did you find this ancient post? The couple thought that the some of the crazies that signed up for every game were planted by the resort in order to liven up the party Yea, I know this seems odd, but that was what they thought.
The first trip to TTR we were look for an all adult vacation with our friends so we booked, we love the place and our friends have never been back. We have also taken other friends and they liked it but now they are divorced. That's the only two times we have taken friends with us. I have found it a lot better just to go by our self and meet the friends we have made there and everyone is on the same page.
The dreaded surprise! It is not our story, but we were there when it happened. 4 yrs ago, real good TTR friends of ours ( first cpl we evr talked to at Mecca 18 trips ago) had their next door neighbours show up mid day at the sexy pool, on a maiden voyage to Temptation. It was during a Week 8 in February. So place was crazy antics 'Surprise!' They said to our friends, as the female half rushed to her lounger to put top back on. 'You talk about this place soo much and keep coming back we decided to come down and surprise you guys' 'When you mentioned last month you were coming here again, we called a travel agent and booked the same week. It was hard keeping it secret at home' Our friends were not impressed with this and their week was severely cramped. The neighbours tried to pretend they were enjoying the resort, but were really strait laced fish outta water. They clunged to our friends 24/7 and other than sleeping, expected to be hand-held at all times. Wouldn't do anything on their own. Pestered for 2 days to go shopping, but took no initiative. After a few days, th3 neighbours said TTR was OK, but wouldn't come back. Didn't understand why ppl would be so devouted to it. "Do they put something in the water to make the guests luv it here" Mr neighbour asked me. I laughed, shrugged and went to the bar. It was interesting and amusing. Of course we could slide away and not be immeresed in the buzzzkill vibe. The neighbours moved away 2 yrs ago after their house was damaged in a hurricane....but we always have a laugh remebering that episode of 'Nevr a Dull moment at Temptation' On a more personal note....a workmate, whom we have never socialized with, harboured plans to book Halloween 2 yrs ago for his wife and him. He was keeping it secret and lokking at prices. He was all set to book it and then thankfully decided he better run it past me. 'We will show up half way thru your week and you can show us the ropes' he said. This guy has the personality of a cumquat and his wife is a busybody gossiper. I was able to talk him out of goin but we are not even on talking level ever since. But that week 2yrs ago, I had drunken nightmares everynight that they would still be showing up the next day. And to this day, if I see a guy resembling him, from afar at TTR....I think....Ohh Shit!
Yes they do in fact put something in the water...but they freeze it first, pour alcohol all over it, mix it up, add some magic fun powder, and pour it down your throat. But that's a bummer of a story for their vacation.
(Mike) hhmmm...those white, see-through Speedos I just bought are going to be juuuust fine. :lotsofmichaelfs:
We took friends with us last trip, they had a blast. Keep telling us how it has changed them given them a new outlook. It all depends on the people.
If we ever brought friends with us, they can suck it up or leave if they didn't like nudity or partying. If we had friends who showed up unexpectedly, it wouldn't change a thing about what I was doing, and I couldn't give a crap what they thought. Think about this way....if they are "truly" friends, would they really care? Viv and I were in Cuba earlier this year, at an adults-only resort. Well, needless to say, no one topless...no fun games...and after some gentle encouragement, Viv took off her top and we walked into the ocean while everyone else on the beach watched in envy. Funny thing though...there was another couple swimming near us in the ocean, ....and after seeing Viv walk across the beach topless, well she decided to take her top off as well.
Best thing about TTR is the wild and friendly folks you meet there. Second Best thing is that it is 1000 miles from Atlanta. Lots are things are best unsaid, lots more are best unseen. We kinda like that "nobody knows you part".
