I don't like how this is getting sensationalized. I mean it was one of the main stories on the national news (abc was the one I was watching). And they presented it as a very serious risk. However, I also don't like how some are so quick to write it off as people having too much to drink and basically refute others experiences without having any first hand knowledge. i think there is a little bit of everything going on here. And I stress little bit. But cutting through all the crap what causes me some concern is the quality of alcohol points. Is there bootlegging occurring where some are trying to save a buck or two and it results in some bottles not having the right controls? Methanol, grain, etc causing bad reactions? I am no expert but it does make me think twice because I can control how much I drink, I also protect our drinks but there really is nothing I can do about suppliers taking short cuts and using vendors who are trying to make an extra buck. Hopefully the good that comes out of this is a little more oversite and controls. I am sure this news being sensationalized will create some action whether it is warranted or not. And we will be better off as a result. I am sure no one wants to risk a decrease in tourism dollars
I wasn't talking about the story you posted. It was about another one I read this morning that a friend posted on facebook. I was just trying to point out that I think people really have no clue how much they are drinking and especially on the first day when they are all excited to be on vacation. I'm sure there are some instances of cheap booze being re-bottled into expensive booze bottles but I'd be surprised if that was the norm.
If you want read the original news story plus more complete details about the incident The original incident story A Mexican vacation, a mysterious death, and now endless questions for Wisconsin family and then the single source story where all this speculation started Tourists to all-inclusive resorts in Mexico suspect they were given tainted alcohol
Here's the deal. The only thing that I can tell you is that I have heard quite a few people in Cancun exclaim that "there is something different about the booze/alcohol"................surely you've heard it too.
Yep, all the mixers in Mexico do taste quite different than at home which I mark up to why mixed drinks taste "different" To me: beers, Mexican brands taste the same at home or in Mexico also straight up shots of well known Mexican Tequilas taste the same at home or in Mexico
We are headed to Temptations in November for the first time and this makes me extremely nervous! We usually go to Hedo and wanted to try something a little different. We just want to go and experience temptations and enjoy without worry! I truly hope we can achieve this, I don't want to worry every time we drink or eat!
I have emailed TTR yesterday about this we are booked in the spring I have yet to get a reply. I think we should all email them to force management to address this issue and make sure there house is clean..
Here is the thing re this issue and TTR. Thousands of people have been to TTR and back and reported about it on this board since we have been on this board since 2010. There have been so many threads about chair saving, single guys, heated pool, AC units, etc. Frankly some topics get old. And so few posts about suspicious alcohol issues such as tainting or spiking. I can count on 1 hand. I think it is easier to explain any TTR issues with a resort guest spiking or too much alcohol. Things you can control. I have zero worries about tainted alcohol coming from the resort at TTR. The numbers just don't support it. I wouldn't fret about it.
I actually am slightly (stress slightly) more concerned about Desire. As there have been more reports from there. But I also think that is more of environment where people may be doing recreational drug use around sexification ha so drinks can get mixed up, etc. And regarding tainted alcohol I would think Original Resorts get their alcohol for all their resorts from the same supplier. End result is take care of your drink to be safe but don't stress that the resort (TTR or Desire) has tainted alcohol or unscrupulous bar tenders. I am more worried about losing my sandals or sunglasses again than that.
