Can we ask a strange question? Why is going topless such a big thing to Americans because it's second nature in Europe and it's stranger to see a woman with her top ON.

 

im not sure if i can answer but i will give it a shot

i think every culture has its own set of mores and while western culture has a large number of shared unwritten understandings about the kinds of behavior likely to evoke approval, disapproval, toleration or sanction

the nudity thing is just not one of them - americans (as a whole) are just not comfortable with public nudity - its part of the way we grow up - programmed to understand that in our culture its just not acceptable behavior -

much the same as other cultures have behaviors americans might find different

My take:

I agree with a lot of what Rob said, I think that Americans are just not as comfortable with their God Given Freedom because our parents raise us to believe that it's wrong. However, many Americans are easily persuaded (with beads, drinks, etc, etc, etc) to remove their clothing with very little hesitation. And for some odd reason, that is very much accepted in America.

My husband and I are naturalists. We are around people on a regular basis that raise their children in that environment and I have to admit, the first couple of times was very strange to us, but now we are so used to it and it doesn't bother us at all.

I think the real issue is that people (mostly Americans) have too many preconcieved notions about nudity (and I must admit that I used to be that way also) and don't care to try to understand it to it's entirity (sp?). Most of them think that if you're a nudist you must be a swinger or you must be a pervert.

Just because Mike and I like to be naked doesn't make us perverts or swingers or anything else that usually goes along with being a "nudist". We enjoy being naked. We enjoy being around people who don't mind it because they are the least judgemental group of people out there! They don't care what you look like, they don't care what your preferences are...they just want to be "normal" and accepted.

im going to sneak out of the closet this week too......and come clean with my family and friends by openly confessing my overly hetero sexual lifestyle -

its so nice to be able to come to terms with who you are as a person......you know?

i mean

all these years......ive been wandering around in freakish misery with a major identity crisis.....so misunderstood :? ...........hell, i knew there was something very different about me from the get go.......nobody lusted after ugly chicks like i did.........and nobody had the twelves greasiest hoes in high school on their "TO DO" list like i did

i think that is why it pissed me to no end that people would try and put me in the old proverbial "box" and use such simplistic terms when describing me - like "hetero sexual", "freak" or "sick pervert" without seeing ME for what i truly was/am

for those closed minded biggots to label me as just a basic "run of the mill" hetero sexual (not that there is anything wrong with that of course) shows just how truly inconsiderate and insensitive some people can be
