Another question. Which supermarket is the easiest to get to by bus and has the must European / American products? Our resort has a microwave and a stovetop, so I figure we should stock up. I searched the forum and I know there's Chedraui, Walmart, Sam's, Comercial Mexicana, Soriana.. but I'm not sure which would be my best bet. Any recommendations?
Walmart would have products you'd probably be most familiar with. However, the Chedraui at Plaza de Las Americas is a very nice store. The Chedraui on the right just as you get into town has a distinctly local flavor. . .very few tourists go there. . .but if you've got someone with you that speaks Spanish it's an experience! It's way handy, too, what with the busses going back to the Hotel Zone pass right by and will stop out front.
I speak Spanish, but it seems that Walmart would probably be the best bet anyway, because they have more American grocery items. I'm open for trying Mexican brands, but my boyfriend has a weak immune system so I don't want to gamble with that.
Everytime we've gone, we've gone by bus and when it says Wal-Mart it seems like three-quarters of the bus empties and heads for the store. It's probably a block or so to the left and we've always just followed the crowd. I tend to get lost easily and have always found the Wal-Mart without difficulty. We usually end up taking a taxi back because we have so many bags. Don't think you'll have trouble finding it. If I can find it I believe anyone can find it.
SuperWalmart Just a suggestion. . .if you wind up at Walmart in the morning and haven't had breakfast go to the restaurant/cafe out in front of the parking lot. I can't remember the name of it but it will put you in mind of a Denny's or IHOP from the outside. We had breakfast there and it was great.
