Make that question "Do you have TWO rooms for rent?" How in the h*** did you get that speed??? Dont get me wrong, Im thrilled... for you.
Life, I checked my bill and I couldn't find any indication of whether the service I was paying for was anything special: we do have internet and cable TV in the package (the usual Cablemas 42 channel or so stuff), plus some equipment rental charges. Maybe it has something to do with the neighborhood I live in (which was selected, after all, for the site of the former mayor's electronic enterprises). This result seems consistent over time. Here's the most recent one. (Running these tests could get addictive, it seems.)
Ahhh... the illusive "4mb" service offered by TelMex (not available in my hood they claimed...) maybe if I wait another 5 years I'll have a solid 2mb here... :icon_rolleyes: ...at least I know whose houses to sit in front of next time I want to download a movie :biggrinbandit:
I'm so jealous, 5Mbps? My Cablemas and Telmex speeds are pathetic. Cablemas Telmex I'm not holding my breath that Cablemas will start offering that speed here anytime soon. Why they can't bump the upload speed is a big mystery to me. That's the biggest problem we have on a day to day basis - the inability to send information. Once we can send and make a connection, download speeds are adequate.
Maybe contact these guys and see what they can do Avantel | Residencial | Internet | Internet Suite de Avantel
From the technical side: Internet Speeds really depend on the Infrastructure... Usually the City is devided in Zones, and there is a distribution frame for every zone. The total internet speed depends on how long the line is from the Dstr. Frame to your house. The longer it is, the higher is the electrical resistance on your line, and that limits the speed. For ex. I got a DSL 6Mbit at home, more is technically not possible... For gods sake, the next house in the street is on the other side of the Border in a nother Distribution-Zone, and its nearer to the Zones Distr. Frame.. They get 20Mbits..
I've wondered if location doesn't matter: for those who care, you might consider renting in my building, if not in my apt! (I got no spare rooms, guys; and, if you've driving a black car, you'll just be another in a line of black cars outside my place!). But that neighborhood with the 20s sounds like the place to be! Why settle for 5, when you can have 20?
