As a newbie I think this would be a great addition to the other 15 thousand stickies. As we become more familiar with the site, personalities and the property we can pick up tips and tricks right from the start as opposed to such great resource getting lost on page 64.
However I do understand where you're coming from.
P.S. I like what what you've done with the trip report sub forum.

What about making one sticky to cover all threads about tips. Whenever one of these tip threads comes up, add it to that first thread. There seems to be a new tip thread every couple of weeks, might be helpful to pool them all in one place.

Your signature won't show unless you have a minimum of 20 or so words.

Be careful with people grabbing your luggage at the airport. Only the guys wearing the blue shirts are airport workers. Others can gauge you and there is no recourse. That tip came from a driver who works there. Don't forget sunscreen noting worse than ruining a vacation with an early burn. Insulated mugs can't be stressed enough. We bring two each, one with a straw for mixed drinks and one without for beer. Don't be afraid to ask for an item from the cook. The girl at lunch made me tacos al pastur every day. Guess the tipping really helped. The bus tip is great. Bus #2 goes to downtown and will drop you off right at the Wal-Mart and pick you up right in front of the store. While your there and still sober Market 28 is just around the corner from the Wal Mart and an inexpensive place to buy trinkets and stuff to bring home. Hope my $.02 helps.

We have been to Cancun several times. For those going for the very first time, here is what to expect and how to handle it.

First you will exit the plane and proceed through the line for immigration where they stamp your passports, etc. This is rather standard from any other international airport.

Then you have to retrieve your luggage and wait in a longggg line to exit the luggage area. Saturdays are particularly crazy, but I suppose everyone wants to go to Cancun! You will put your luggage through the scanners then hand over another form that you most likely filled out on the airplane.

Then, and only then you will exit some double doors, and turn to the right. About 100 yards of hallway later you will exit to all the waiting cabs, pre-arranged transportation, etc. The trick is getting there. I call that 100 yards or so "the guantlet." You will see lots of well-dressed airport workers (usually in some shade of light blue) just falling over themselves to "help you out" and "direct you to your correct hotel transportation" or something like that.

Don't buy it for a moment. Every one of them--and I mean every one--is just trying to get you to the numerous stations to the side (you will see lots of tourists there) and the entire point is to get you to agree to sit at a time share presentation at one hotel (can't remember the exact one, but it is the same one, perhaps the Grand Maya?)

Just continue walking, look straight ahead, throw in a couple of quick but firm NO headshakes and they will get the hint real quick that you know the deal. There are people who go to Cancun several times a year for years on end. The time share folks aren't trying to convince them--only the new folks who haven't yet learned "the drill."

I found the following post on TripAdvisor and it is spot on.

when you exit customs just keep walking, dont even look at them,or if you do a polite but firm NO will suffice, its only a 100 yards to the outside doors where your rep will be waiting.

I have passed through Cancun airport 6 times, never been stopped by them, I just keep walking : )

I think if you know to expect them its not too bad as you are then ready for them.

By the way, they will look at your luggage tags and say they are from your travel company-this is not true, your travel company never meet you inside the airport terminal, they are always outside holding up a sign so you can easily locate them straight away

Go with the private transfer (USA Transfers is wonderful) or you'll waste valuable time dropping people off at the other resorts all the way to TTR.

As for the underwater cameras--we used the Kodak disposables on the Boobs Cruise, and now don't know where to get them developed...seems some places might refuse to develop due to the "content":ladiesman1:

Just an FYI - I have seen Kodak disposable digital cameras. Might be a better option for concerns about development.

Seen on Amazon in link below, but I am not sure where which stores carry them.
