Think they should contact the producers of "Hotel Hell" and get Gordon Ramsey in to remake the hotel and get it back on track. If nothing else, it would be an interesting show!! Can just see him walking around yelling "Donkey" and "piss off" to the help and they just look at him saying "no understand donkey"!! LOL Me thinks this be rumor. They have got to be rolling the money in and the asking price to give that up would be pretty high!
My 2 cents on the issue are as follows. I could see the hotel changing hands if the price was right. If that was the case it was purchased as an investment. You do not fix something that is not broken and lose your investment. You keep it status quo and continue to make it profitable and collect on the investment. We are friends with someone who is a regular at Hedo. They know the new owners who were regulars but put a group together and bought the resort. They have not changed anything other than updating it and improving the run down issues of the resort. We have never been to the resort but I was told it was getting pretty rundown before it was bought. The resort concept stayed the same they just invested in their venture to make it more profitable by making people more comfortable there. If I had an investment group I would buy another resort in Cancun, maybe the isolated one that you pass in the lagoon area. Then just as Oasis did compete with TTR for this niche crowd. I would contact Steve and work out a deal for Cancuncare members to try the resort for a discounted rate. Then I would be living the dream! No need to reinvent the wheel just improve on it and compete with TTR who has no competition on this crowd. You see how TTR suddenly did some work to the resort when Oasis Viva was taking business from them. Then they SLOWED down when it was sold and the competition went away.
So keeping on topic we would obviously choose Pearl. As to why... - we felt the 2 to 3 times greater price was actually a good value. If that money was going into the resorts pockets then we would agree it isn't worth it. But instead we had batter food, better liquor options, way nicer rooms, an awesome jacuzzi with a swim up bar, a much nicer beach and a disco that was way more upscale with better furnishings and great working air conditioning. - we didn't find it pretentious or cliquey but of course we have only been once so we need more visits to truly judge this. Obviously it is the people you encounter each week that determines this so maybe it is more likely at Pearl. We will see. - we liked that pearl is a quarter of the people in some aspects and not in others. We got to meet almost everyone at the resort so that actually made it have more of a 'family' feel, everyone is in it together and the group determined the level of fun for the night. Kind of like what we experienced at TTR during Octoberbreast thanks to the ability to gather in advance on this site. Without this site Octoberbreast would of never happened. - I agree that it isn't as crazy and you have to make your own fun to some extent. So not the right match for introverts that want to break out of their shell but need help. We r good at making our own fun so wasn't an issue for us but totally agree with the point. - yeah age is older but in may that was more because there were no lower 20 something's. Plenty of 30's and 40's. I am worried that it will be an even older crowd in October. We will see. We prefer no singles too (sorry singles, just our opinion as to how it effects the vibe) - agree on the nakedness point. But it truly was optional. And the fact that it was even allowed just made it a more freeing rule free environment. I hate rules for the sake of rules and I hate restrictions on the fun. There was none of that at pearl. It was more of a live and let live type of environment. As for other reasons outside of responding to the list... - they make you feel like a king and queen. They held a party in our penthouse with buffet, full bar, bartender, dj and for only $200. TTR tries to gouge their guests for every penny they can. When we go to the pool the pool boy has chairs ready for us with towels. The waitress brings over our favorite drinks. The entertainment staff walks over and talks to me about the days events. The poolside grill fires up behind me and I smell great seabass, chorizo and rib eyes starting to cook. The grill worker remembers me from the other day and when I waive starts to make me and Jen a seabass and shrimp fried rice combo we love. That stuff doesn't happen at TTR. For us to leave Octoberbreast half way thru it has to be for a good reason Pearl is just a different level of luxury with the same fun IF you make it that way and have the right people. So if Ttr closed down and those amazing people then went to Pearl then pearl would be perfect!!! I never would want ttr to close down but if it did then I hope all the great people would come to ttr and turn the party up a notch!
I think we would go where our friends go. We have made lifelong friends every time we go to TTR so if it changes and our friend go elsewhere we will be at the elsewhere place also! XOXOXOX :daveandmo: Debbie
Frankly if the vibe changed, I'd ask to be bought out. I bought my membership to continue the fun that I always find there. If it isn't the same, I'll spend my vacation dollars elsewhere.
We had an absolute blast at Desire! Yes Desire is not the party that TTR is.........but we didn't find it cliquish at all. Everyone was very friendly........the staff excellent.....food a bit better.......and the alcohol was decidedly better. Now......all of that is only our opinion and experience. Everyone is certainly entitled to their opinion. As to the cost.......buy the time from a "member" or two. Many members never use all their weeks! On a side note ...................... If there is anyone I'd trust to be in the know....... I'd trust Steve. Seems to me that he has been "spot on" with the other hotel happenings in Cancun! Piece.........or maybe it's Peace ........to all!
