'I know something which is known to few but is not a secret. Karl Rove is not a believer, and he doesn’t shout it from the rooftops, but when asked, he answers quite honestly. I think the way he puts it is, “I’m not fortunate enough to be a person of faith.”' http://nymag.com/arts/books/features/31244/ There are millions of people that pretend to be believers out there. Karl Rove is one of them and he's used it to very good Political effect. IMHO GWB is another. As I've pointed out before, it doesn't happen suddenly. Little baby steps. One minute you think everything is peachy and next minute you find your liberties are no longer there. Or seeks to hamper the system of checks ad balances by claiming everything is at his discretion? Or refuses to allow his staff to attend congressional investigations perhaps? Again on the thin end of the wedge side, does it worry you that the Rove machine was using govt resources and heads of depts to assist Republican candidates seeking reelection? Yes. That could turn out to be a big OOOPS for them, couldn't it.
If you will note from my post, I didn't say that the word in and of itself is name calling, I said you called Drew a progressive and that makes your post contain some name calling in my mind. You certainly don't have to agree that it is name calling, that's your perogative. That being said I don't see a darn thing wrong with being progressive minded....it sure as heck beats the alternative! Michelle
Yes, it that sure makes for good reading and also happens to sell books. Care to see a moment when he is asked about his faith in the public forum (not reported second-hand) and answers quite honestly?
You put "Karl Rove" and "answers quite honestly" in the same sentence. I think that counts as an automatic disqualification.
Quite possibly. Let's call it a draw http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2007/08/18/AR2007081801182_pf.html
Man, a couple of days outta here and you miss a lot. LOL! OK urefinnej, to answer a couple of questions that you pointed out... For a couple of reasons. I spent time abroad and returned home to deal with some family issues, which I won't dwell upon because they have all resolved themselves either favorably or tragically. However I have also grown accustom to a certain way of life. And I am not speaking in a materialistic way because just recently I was telling my parents that I was much happier when we (my wife and I) didn't have much. I don't feel that the U.S. is a particularly easy place to live. No matter who is in control of the White House, Senate, or Congress, the cost of living here is beyond what many, many people can afford. I commented on how the U.S. population is in the neighborhood of 300 million people. A vast majority of people cannot afford to feed their families, provide shelter, or maintain some basic decency of a lifestyle here. How can that be easy? Might doesn't make right and I don't think that it is this country's position to particularly stand for anything. However when problems arise throughout the world... be they natural disasters, economic strife, or political unrest... many look to the U.S. to step in. Why? Because we have done so in the past and will continue to do so in the future. I have said before a couple of times on this forum that I feel that we do stick our nose into people's business too often. And it does get us in trouble. Here's a quote from Benjamin Franklin that sums it up... "Never has there been a good war or a bad peace." As for people ridiculing and offering insults, I have seen no finer example than Drew. It is almost expected from him when he posts in certain threads. I find it comical honestly. I also give Michelle and Drew props for their honest opinions and fervor to share with us what they believe. I appreciate what they contribute and honestly from time to time, I do ponder what they offer and it does make me wonder. Yet, I still choose to form my own opinions and ultimately decide whether I agree or disagree with them. In the end, I am no worse nor better than those with whom I disagree.
Jamie, Here's a little clip covering some history of the USA's "world's policeman" policy... http://movies.crooksandliars.com/TDS-America-Rescue.mov
Please allow me to take your comment out of text for a moment... I must give the Swiss credit for tasty chocolate, excellent knives, masterful timepieces, and the skiing is not too shabby either.
