Hmmm land mines..... there's a thought.... deep breath I just kidding... geeezzzz

Nice to see that others are now having to deal with the issues we have been for years.

But you know, it's so easy to critize the other side or someone else. The real hard part is coming up with a plan that addresses the issue. That's the hard part, so that is why everyone jumps to the easy side and says - You call that a plan?

America has been and still is the most open society in the world. We are very successful. Sure in the past, and in some cases now, we have thrown our weight around. But who is the first ones called when someone else is in trouble? New Zealand? So when you call the big guy out to assist, sometimes he decides to come out on his own. You have to take the bad with the good.

Read a recent story in the paper where in Boulder Co that are looking into how to allow illegal immigrants to serve on government Boards there. I'm sure that if I in Mexico illegally and applied for a position on a government Board in Cancun the first thing that would happen is I would be on a plane back to the US.

I sometimes wonder what would happen if the US closed its boarders, recalled all its troops stationed around the world home, stopped all the imports and exports and truly became an isolationist country like it seems the entire world is calling for. We would just go home and stay there.

Sure we would have problems shift from a gas society to another type of fuel, but think of all the money we would have to spend on it by not sending everyone international aid. We could drastically reduce our defense budget because we’d only have to worry about defending US soil. We could make the country a lot more secure because we could truly close the boarders to illegal immigration, drugs, smugglers, everything… We could spend billions on our infrastructure and repair our roads and have full employment to produce all the items we currently import from around the world. This gets better and better the more I think about it.

We wouldn’t be the bullies anymore, someone else would have to step up and be the world policeman. We wouldn’t care anymore if there was genocide someplace if it was outside our boarders. Let the rest of the world deal with that for a change. Of course gas prices would go down around the world because we in the US would be sucking it up from everyone, and that would be a good thing because we also would be buying all those imports so millions around the world would be out of work.

Like I said, this though needs some more thought. That way we won’t have to worry about being asked to present papers to get on a plane because no one would be mad at us anymore and be trying to blow us up. We could be like the Swiss… nobody has a problem with them right?

Yes, why not be like the Swiss?
Haven't countries like them done wonders for the world ?
Perhaps we'd be both on the fence and liked everywhere.
    Ahhhhhhhh...

But, today our European friends would be speaking with a German or Russian accent, and all our Asian Pacific friends (including in New Zeeland) would now be greeting each other with "konnichiwa" and bowing to a flag with a big red meatball printed on it.

"These squads should be instructed always to look for demonstrators," it says. "The rally squad's task is to use their signs and banners as shields between the demonstrators and the main press platform. If the demonstrators are yelling, rally squads can begin and lead supportive chants to drown out the protestors (USA!, USA!, USA!). As a last resort, security should remove the demonstrators from the event site."

Looks like a couple of lawsuits are mentioned, including one that has already been settled.

Nice post Drew...I had heard about the manuel, but didn't know it was released to the ACLU. I'm going to try to get a copy from them now that I know that it truly does exist.

It's just unreal what some folks will do to censor speech/silent protest in this country. Asking that couple to cover up their t-shirts or leave was just rediculous!!!

I hope they loose the other 2 lawsuits as well.

I find the contrast stunning: Where the Iranian Intelligence Ministry imprisons, and interrogates its dissenters for up to eight hours a day, plus starves, and leaves them in solitary confinement for months; Bush is condemned for "deterring potential protestors"?

Does anyone think the ACLU, or any other foreign leader with moral authority has one ounce of courage to standup to an Iranian Ayatollah instead of a US President waiting to leave office?
