that is a misquote (occurs frequently for that particular line). It is actually: the clarifiers "essential" and "a little temporary" should be noted.
What??? Drewbert misconstruing a comment or quote or taking something out of context? Surely you jest Michael. Granted we are not the most secure nation in the world and we have given up certain freedoms, but we haven't quite made it to China, Cuba or North Korea's level yet. Can't say that I am to the point of fearing that my government will come and pull me out of my house in the middle of the night, never to be heard of again. I concur that there are many other nations out there that are safer than we are because they don't put themselves into other's affairs. But I can't say that they are any better than us. Perhaps it is time that we stop meddling and let the rest of the world take care of this planet's problems. Then we'll be the bad guys because we won't help out with our numerous resources. Tsk, tsk... damned if you do, damned if you don't. Drew has a problem deciphering the difference between a country of ethnically and religiously diverse people with a population of 301,000,000 people and his homeland of 4,000,000. He also is led to believe that everybody in the United States thinks alike. Who is the real minion, when all you do is believe in one philosophy or opinion Big D? We are no better than you, or anybody else in the world. But I am starting to believe that if you were to obtain some forged documents, you would be a shoo-in for a government/Congressional job with all of your knowledge of our country. Losing some liberties is nothing new. People here were losing liberties even before the ink dried on The Constitution. It just not as drastic as some people like to portray. Many of the programs that we are now utilizing in this country are ideas that have originated around the world. Mounted video surveillance cameras in urban areas for an example. I've had the opportunity to live abroad. Are there other places that I could live? Absolutely. Is there anywhere else I would like to live? Absolutely not! I'm starting to wonder if Drew tried to visit the U.S. and was turned back by HMS because he was on the "Do Not Fly" list. Surely by now they have an extensive folder started on him.
I love Drewbert.... why bother with facts when you can run at the mouth. Riddle me this sir.... if America is soooo bad, why is it the only country in the world that has to build fences to keep people out? Jamie
But why is it (that you prefer to live in the US)? Is it because it is the 'easiest' place on earth to live? Even if that were true, and I don't think it is, that would only be a good reason for people who are truly lazy. Is it because we 'stand for' something as a nation? What exactly do we stand for? "Might makes right"? Is that what floats your boat? Is it because it's the free-est nation on earth? Well, that sure sounds like what's in jeopardy and what Drew has been trying to tell you. In the short time I've been reading this forum, I've seen example after example of people being ridiculed and being subjected to the most childish of insults - all because they differed with the general opinion. It's been a dissapointment to say the least. Drew and Michelle, keep the faith. You are the most rational and real folks I've seen here. (Probably everone else like you has already left)
>Riddle me this sir.... if America is soooo bad, why is it the only country in >the world that has to build fences to keep people out? Here we go Jamie, time to put you out of your Fox Opinion Channel /Limbaugh induced misery. ###### http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/europe/3149744.stm "Seven illegal immigrants suspected to be from Pakistan were killed by landmines as they attempted to cross from Turkey into Greece on Monday. The immigrants cut through a barbed wire fence after passing signs warning of a heavily mined field, an Greek army spokesman told AFP news agency."... ..."Tens of thousands of illegal immigrants try to enter Europe via Greece every year." ###### http://www.iht.com/articles/2005/10/04/news/spain.php "Spain will build a third high-security fence between its Melilla enclave and Morocco after undocumented immigrants repeatedly stormed two existing barriers, an Interior Ministry official said Tuesday. Speaking on Spanish National Radio, Interior Ministry official José Fernández Chacón said the new fence "would be built with urgency" and was part of a plan that last week saw the deployment of troops and a speeding-up of work to heighten one of the other two barriers." ###### So by typing 3 simple keywords into Google I was able to disprove your "fact" in less than a minute. So riddle me this Jamie, who told you this "fact" and why did you accept it without question? It ranks right up there with "Henry Ford invented the Motor Car" on the silly scale.
On the original topic: What a dumb idea how does smiling make you less of a threat than others jesus..... maybe the security at US airports need to learn to be more people orientated and smile more instead of treating you like Sh*t even though you're coming to visit their country to spend some of your hard earned money and time! On the politics conversation..... I'm glad its evolved into a real conversation and I will be reading it more
Ah a nice heated debate The article is right....1984 is coming true - soon they'll have us all walking around like robotic grinning idiots! The US government seems to be taking security to the next level, a bit worrying and i can understand to a certain degree why they are doing it - the majority of the world doesn't look upon the Bush administration particualry favourably.........Do you think in the light of the recent report saying that the CIA could've stopped some of the hijackers but didn't, the situation may get even worse as they compensate for their mistakes. Thankfully, lifes different here in blighty - security is more subtle and they try and keep hastle to a minimum. Take the other month for example when someone drove a jeep in to the terminal building in Glasgow, at the time and a day or two after there was a high level of visible security at the airports, but then it went straight back to normal and everyone got back on with it. On to the ID Cards - they are trying to push that on to us here too - doesn't bother me really i think its a good idea, as an upstanding citizen of the UK (cough cough!!) i've nothing too hide. What does bother me is their idea to fit all cars with GPS so they can 'charge per mile' ... hmm alterior motive me thinks!!!! Plus not very fond of the idea that i get caught on CCTV 30 odd times as i walk down the highstreet! ... sorry i wandered off topic, is nice to rant every now and then
I dont like the idea of the ID cards.... I understand that they're planning on installing these chips (I forget the name) thats pretty much a tracking device!! 1984 is upon us!
