Me and my Wife returned yesturday from our Honeymoon and we were newbies to TTR. We went on the reccomendation of a friend whi had been 6years on the trot. She's never been ill or had a bad experience with TTR. We arrived a day late due to our Thomas Cook flight being cancelled until the following day. After checking in and being shown to our room, we started looking around and by day 4 we had been struck down with this virus along with 10 other people we had met. Severe stomach cramps, fatigue, sickness and the worse case of the shits ever... So bad we felt we couldn't go further than the pool as we needed to be nearer the toilets than anywhere else!! We were unable to pin point what made us ill... The food/drink/ice/water/pool? Literally everyone we spoke to contracted it. After struggling through 4 days of taking it easy an doing nothing but sip water we went to the Pharmacy across the street who told us it may be Gastroentritis or a Stomach Virus. He prescribed us Anti-biotics. Bactivar i beleive they were called. And withing a day we started to feel better. The Holiday was amazing, drinks were forever flowing, we met the nicest people and the food, i thought, was great. Staff couldn't do enough for you so overall it hasn't put me or my Wife off going back but be mindful when going - maybe tell the Dr you're going and get them to prescribe you something just in case before you go.
We were there in may and I had bad cramps on the last few days that lasted for another week after we got back to the UK, so went to the Docs and was tested, came back positive for salmonella poisoning and could have only got it from TTR, wont put us off going back, just letting folks know was a few folk that had a few days off colour while we were there.
hi guys sorry to hear about the start of your honeymoon thankfully you got better and enjoyed the rest of it we are going for the first time in august is there any advice you could pass onto us with regards to anything in general xxx
Well, yeah, apart from the virus that's gone around, and the reports of it being at other restorts. Apart from that you'd have a good point.
Hi there! One thing i know for sure is.. You'll thoroughly enjoy it and hopefully by then this virus should have been sorted! Umm... Top tips from a couple of newbies i suppose would be: - Get involved with the Theme Nights! Get you're name added to the August Spreadsheet, see who else is going the same time as you and make sure you meet them! Everyone is so wonderful! - Get Orange Wristbands so other people off this forum can identify yoy! The regulars will then be sure to help you out & show you the ropes around the resort so to speak! - Try the Sexy Coffee at the Italian as it's amazing! And make sure you call no later then 9:30am to 1640 from you're room to book you're tables in the restaurants that need a reservation! (Italian and Asian Only) - Avoid the Time Share!!! Coming from the UK you shouldn't be badgered yoo much as they are aware its a 10 hour flight! - Xcaret, Jungle Tour (drive you're own speedboat!), Dolphin Discovery and The Chitzen Itza i would say are a must for first timers if you like excursions but make sure you shop around for the cheapest deals and wear good walking shoes for Xcaret! It's a beautiful place but hell of a long day!! Can't really think of anything else to be honest but if you have any other questions, feel free to PM me Enjoy! X
Ok apparently this sickness is for real. I'm not looking forward to getting so k when on vacation. I've confirmed this sickness with some folks that went a few weeks ago. They say the samething cramps and diarrhea. They think its the ice, I hope its clear by Labor Day.
It was posted here that a woman tested positive for salmonella upon her return from TTR at the height of the sickness conversation. Others have suggested a virus.....and still others have indicated that Cipro didn't curtail the symptoms.....Suggesting it's not all virus. Then there are the reported outbreaks at other resorts... It may (seems likely) be a combination of things... kind of hard to tell.
Cipro? As in Ciprofloxacin? Well that's an antibiotic, which is effective against bacteria NOT viruses, so if it did not curtail symptoms maybe this would suggest it is a virus (my money is on Norovirus still) By the way folks, please don't treat diarrhoea with antibiotics!! :daisy:
Thank you so much for saying that! I've been wanting to comment for several days now, and haven't. Everyone, please don't take antibiotics without an active bacterial infection . . . . It will do more harm than good! Antibiotics actually help cause diarrhea! ~Alicia~
