I lived in Oregon for 7 years. Some west of the Cascades, most of it east of them. Geezus....7 months of rain on the west side....7 months of winter on the east side. Im a southern boy, I couldnt take it. hhahaha
We have had some rocking storms since Friday but no snow. In fact snow levels have been between 6,000' and 8,000' but we did get some very much needed rain. A friend of ours got almost 20" in his rain gauge over 4 days. We really need more snow pack to keep our lakes fed in the dry season. This drought is serious shit. And we are going to be back in the 70s by Thursday. 82 more days until we don't give a crap!
Where on the east side? We are looking to get out of Cali as soon as our baby graduates high school next year. It's looking like we are headed for Bend, OR. Unless I can figure out how we can live somewhere in the Caribbean.
Baker City. Most backwards town Ive ever lived in. Was in Bend several times. Bend really started growing while I was living in Oregon. Lots of Californians. At that time, most Oregonians weren't too happy about it. I couldnt give an unbiased opinion because there is no way Id ever move north again. Im a warmer weather person and thrive on a lower cost of living.. Texas suits us on both fronts.
Bend area is nice. I lived in central Oregon for many years. If you're an outdoorsy type it's awesome. Tons of big and small lakes for boating, camping and fishing in the summer. Great skiing in the winter. Killer bird deer and elk hunting in the fall.. And in the spring.. Rain. Hot in the summer and high desert snow in the winter!
Boston here. Ugh...6 feet of snow in 17 days. We've already broke our 30 day record, and are about to beat our 40 day record. With another storm Thursday (1 more foot!) and Sunday (AUGH!!! DON'T FUCK WITH MY FLIGHT!). I'm diggin it, but ready for the sun!
In the hockey dressing room, location of all things wisdomly, yesterday someone brought up the subject of the high cost of living in our northern climate. Add in the ski town factor and it gets out of hand. - 8 tires for each vehicle, 4 winter, 4 summer - 4WD or AWD pretty much mandatory - higher building costs.... increased snow load and/or insulation - hot tub - a snowblower..... No, not that kind but I like how you think. - increased heating costs, low temps + long winter - woodstove + gas/electric heat = firewood - increased lighting costs, long winter - possibly increased alcohol consumption..... although Leaf's fans don't consume much beer during the playoffs! - snowmobile..... BRAP-BRAP! - skis..... well yes, we do need 9 pairs for different ski styles/conditions - ski passes or lift tickets - ski resort food and beverages - winter clothing and boots.... why yes, we do need 9 toques - etc, etc, etc OK, to get back on track with the intent of this thread I will try to post one of our outdoor Valentine's Day photo shoot pics before Feb 14th. Hmmmmm, do we post the ones of Ms Skibum rockin' a down jacket or just red lingerie?
We had to turn on the AC today. 83 in Houston today. Cold front here tomorrow also, only supposed to get to 73.
