I would also suggest not drinking from the ocean. Tastes a bit salty ;)

I drink about a gallon of water out of the sink faucet every day while I'm there. I get a kick out of those who spend every waking hour drinking loads of alcohol in the hot sun...and then say a bad ice cube made them sick.

Excuse me? Excuse me, senor? May I speak to you please? I asked for a mai tai, and they brought me a pina colada, and I said no salt, NO salt for the margarita, but it had salt on it, big grains of salt, floating in the glass...

"I could put...I could put...strychnine in the guacamole. There was salt on the glass, big grains of salt." LOL!

I had this very question a few years ago and asked a reliable source.....the answer was: Many years ago the pipes in the hotels were copper which rusted and contaminated the water that flowed through them which made people sick. Today most older hotels have had their piped replaced and the newer ones were built with PVC pipes. I'm told that TTR has good pipes.
The ice is trucked in as they would never be able to keep up if making it on their own.
As for eating the veggies and seafood, it's usually good....the bad stuff may be what you put on them, ie....dressings, oils, butter etc, as they sit out in the heat for long periods of time.
I've been to TTR Cancun 4 X's and have yet to become ill.

My hands smelled like chlorine two days after we got back home. I agree that there is nothing alive in the pool water.

The water to me smelled and tasted like sulfur. Strongly. I could not drink it due to the taste. The restaurants show you a large water jug that has filtered water, and I could tell a couple times when resort water was served in its place at dinner. Easy solution was to drink more beer.
