If they would put some effort into cracking down on those people who employ illegal immigrants, making them pay enourmous fines for each employee they hire, there would be no need for a fence. It seems like that would be the better way to handle the problem. Start yanking some of those business licenses to re-peat violators. Michelle
As usual, I agree with you Michelle. I also think that we should tax the immigrants who are working here at a higher rate and make it the responsibility of the employers to withhold the taxes and forward them on to the government. If the employer fails to do so, they are in violation of federal tax code and nobody wants to mess with the IRS! As a society Americans would feel more accepting of immigrants if they were paying their own way in the form of higher taxes than naturalized citizens. If my daughter went to school in another state she would pay higher tuition than students who live in that state. It is a fully accepted practice. This is just taking that idea to another level.
NormsKid, from what I've read alot of those jobs that are employing illegal imigrants are jobs that American's don't want to do. Maybe a deeper look into the migrant worker program. Find a way to turn some of those illegal workers into legal ones
this is a very hard question to answer. Is a big fense the answer, I do not think so. However, the government should come up with some solutions to help the problem, because it is a VERY big problem!
Sadly there is no easy answer but it seems we all agree a fence is a BIG waste of time and $$$$$$ Michelle, and 4BID I agree with both of you but I really think Sparkey has a great idea with the taxation :!:
A wall/fence is a bad idea...How the hell else am i gonna bring illegal stuff back JUst kidding Walls/fences cause nothing but segregation..look at germany they were 2 complete different entities until the wall crashed now one of the most diplomatic and correct countries no longer 50% commy lol
Germany was one country split in two... Mexico and the US are two seperate countries. If you want to control access you have to put up walls and fences. It may not stop them all but it will stop the majority.
And what poll/survey did you find that tells you that there are No Americans that will do that work? I think that's a bunch of bunk! There clearly are Americans who won't do the work for the pennies that the Mexicans do it for....no doubt, I wouldn't work for those pennies either. But to say that there are NO Americans who will do the work......I think is incorrect. Michelle
Being someone who has been replaced by Mexicans who were willing to work for a fraction of what I was earning, I think its not entirely true that Americans are unwilling to do the work also.
Recently here an illegal immigrant dragged his girlfriend to death behind his truck for a mile through a neighborhood. Another shot a cop and ran back to Mexico. In both cases American citizen would be facing the death penalty for the offences. In both cases, life in prison is the worst they could get because we want to keep good relations with the Mexican Government. Maybe we should just start a trade of one Mexican Citizen prison term in the states for an American Citizen prison term in Mexico. If you were facing life in a Mexican jail, you might think a little harder about committing the crime. Thinking that a business ma is going to turn away someone that works for pennies on the dollar is a pipe dream. So what is the problem in trying to protect our border? Will a fence stop everyone? Nope. But it will make a dent. That and the other surveillance methods they plan to employee will make a big difference. Besides, one might say it's for their own protection. Wasn't everyone complaining a while back about the Border Crossers dieing in the desert? Oh yeah, that was before the Mexican Government started passing out water bottles and maps to help people make it across the border. And then there was the complaints from the Mexican Government about the US Government cracking down on the crossings. They were upset that we might be able to stop it. Instead of complaining, I agree that the Mexican Government should worry more about making Mexico better for her citizens rather than making it easier to come to the states. Jamie
