Does anyone have any idea how much it might cost to ship a few souvenirs from Cancun back to the US. I'm not talking about a big package, just the few things that won't fit in my luggage. I checked UPS.com and for some reason the quote was over $800.00. I think they're having some technical issues... Thanks in advance!
I once looked at shipping T shirts from Cancun via DHL and it was around $30 per shirt. I didnt take that idea any further. It does sound like the quote you got from their site was way out though.
The easiest thing to do in this case is to fold up a cheap gym bag or something similar and take it with you. On the way back, fill it with dirty clothes and pack your souvenirs in your suitcases. You are allowed two checked bags per person. No bag can weigh more than 50 pounds and the weight of the 2 cannot exceed 90.
shipping rates Well, me being a woman and all....I've already planned on filling both of my suitcases and I don't know what my husbands plans are for his two bags but if he decides to take two then we won't have room for them coming home. Thats why I was thinking about shipping. I wonder if it would be cheaper to pay for the extra bag?
In that case I would recommend paying the airline for the extra bag. Wow; 4 bags. All you need is shorts, tee shirts, bathing suits, sandals, tennies if you walk and a few toiletries.
Re: shipping rates That was my first thought. The extra charge from the airline for another bag would probably be less than the shipping cost. That way you dont have to deal with customs B.S. with shipping too. Dont forget also that you are technically allowed 2 carry on pieces each also. The rules for that can be found on your airlines website.
Jason is correct but please note that the two carry-ons are like a small suitcase for one of them and a purse, backpack or computer bag for the other. I left Cancun the other day on Spirit and they announced that the flight was full and that there would be strict compliance with the carry on rules and anyone with more than the above would have to check the outlawed items. Some did it voluntarily and some got nabbed at the plane. We left from a B gate which is where you walk out either to the plane or to a bus. We had a bus. Spirit reps had baggage claim checks and took the voluntarily surrendered bags at the terminal. They put what few there were in the front of the bus with the driver but a Spirit rep "escorted" the bags to the plane.
