Can anyone recommend a good money transfer place? Western Union pops up in my head, but arent they kind of expensive? Some alternatives would be great. (Its from Mexico to Canada, by the way.)
Rawkus, try Western Union. Not every money transfer company operating in Mexico might have an office in Canada, or a representative.... Plus, as far as I know, it IS now cheap to send money from Mexico to Canada (at least it is so from Canada to Mexico).
Moneygram can also be helpful. Its not that expensive as Western Union, but the reciever is limited to pick up the money at Banamex or at an OXXO
NicHamburg: Im sending from Mex to Canada, not the other way around Ill check out Moneygram, thanks. Scorpio: I would assume it would be "cheaper" to send from Canada to Mexico than the other way around? I think WU had an approx fee of 10% of the sum... Ill see how much Moneygram charges and then Ill go from there Thanks guys!
There is a local branch of a Canadian Bank (Bank of Nova Scotia) in Cancun Scotiabank Avenida Tulum 26, Centro, CancĂșn, Quintana Roo - 01 998 892 3834 The least expensive way would be just to have them transfer the funds to to another branch in Canada where the recipient has an account.
Rawkus: 1. MoneyGram also charges some amount for the transfer. And for WU it's NOT 10%, it's a fixed amount, depending on how much you are sending. 2. Scotia BAnk in Mexico and Scotia Bank in Canada are in fact 2 DIFFERENT things(even as they are the SAME bank). Be very careful if you decide to take this route with Scotia Bank.
So, after comparing some costs between Moneygram and WU, I have decided to give MG a go. Has anyone used it lately here in Cancun? The reason I ask is that their website states several places, such as Soriana, Wal Mart, Bancomer, Banorte and so on, but the agent locator ONLY lists Coppel in Cancun...
Moneygram vs. Western Union So rawkus, or anybody else, I know this is a zombie thread, but how did using MoneyGram go? Or is there a better option? Or should we just stick with Western Union in Cancun? Thanks!
