It's no longer a question if you still want to go to Cancun, but can you actually get there in the month of May So far Continental, Delta and (as of this morning) United have canceled the majority of their flights to and from Cancun We were booked and ticketed months ago for a May 9th trip to Cancun As of April 28th our carrier canceled all flights to Cancun - we scrambled - got re booked on United via Dulles to Cancun - this morning United announced they were canceling that route and many others for the month of May - we scrambled again - got re booked on United via Chicago to Cancun - but had to fly a day earlier than scheduled This trip for us is already an adventure and we haven't even taken off yet - LOL We suggest everyone that is still going checks, at least daily, to make sure their flights are still valid
I checked today and American is still going. We leave the 13th and will check later. The flights are mostly full. Very few seats are open, so I am in hopes that we will get there with out problems. Don
I am flying from Philly with US airways on 6th May..............so far no cancellation. Good Luck Tracey
we are going on american also.just spoke with them and they have no plans to cancel any flight unless a "majority of passengers" on each individaul flights cancel or rebook.(as of right now our flight from dallas to cancun is almost sold out for next saturday) friends that are flying on us airways were told basicaly the same. im sure thats also unless the CDC or WHO change thier minds about travel restrictions but reading thier websites they seem to be leaning the other way to free travel.
CNN said that Continental and Delta are canceling 50% of their flights to Mexico for a while. A Mexicana rep told us that Mexicana has no intentions to cut back on flights between the States and Mexico. I think this is airline by airline, case by case.
TraceyUk - you might want to check US Air again They just announced this evening that they are cutting out 30% of their May flights to Cancun
Thanks Cokewithlime. Called Us airways and sure enough the evening flights from Philly to Cancun are cancelled until Friday 8th May. Tracey
This is going to be a major problem for Cancun travel and will have a spiraling affect. Ticket prices will actually go up because of the reduced service being offered. It will also cause many people to have long flights who cannot go non-stop due to limited connectivity and flights available. So it will further dampen people going to Cancun and hurt and delay the comeback process. Unfortunately this in turn will hurt an already fragile economy impacted by the bad economy in the USA, Canada, and UK. Also the drug cartel violence perceptions, and the beach erosion issue. Before this flu thing you saw stores, bar, and restaurants closing. When these places close their doors it hurts tourism. I am afraid you will see closings escalate and a lot of businesses simply will not be able to survive this latest impact to their business and lack of cash flow. Thus I feel there are good chances you will see this spiraling and lasting long time When the hurricane hit most places had insurance and receives monies and re-built bigger and better. Unfortunately they are not covered by insurance for the things hurting Cancun now.
