The shallow dives around Cancun are just ok in my opinion.. If you want an experience, go to Cozumel for a day... The are many operators in Playacar. That can have a boat pick you up at the ferry dock.. Google Coz if you've never been. It's an hour or so drive from the resort. It's world class. Drift diving. Unspoiled reefs.. Soo many sites you couldn't dive it all in five years. Pm if you want my DM's info.. You won't regret it!!!

The instructor at the resort is supposed to be very good and is highly recommended.

Our Cancun area dives were "just ok" too. We have heard how nice Cozumel is and will definitely try that sometime in the future.

This might have already been said but Boris does a great job in the scuba diving department. The price is not unreasonable and it is a lot of fun.

Not a fan of Solo Buceo, it was a cattle boat operation with everyone coming up at the same time, I hit top with 1100lbs of air.

The shallow dives are just ok, unless you can get to one of the wrecks out off the point.

Take the bus to Playa Del Carmen and catch the ferry to Coz. You can find several recommendations over on Scuba Board, I have dove with a half dozen different ops over the years. I have a friend that always dives with Del Mar, I like both Dive with Allison or Roberta at the little shop next to Park Royal, Eco Divers. They start early, so you will need to contact them to set up a later departure time. Several great first/ deeper dives, but I really like hitting Dalila for a shallow dive. Loads of sea life from parrot fish, lobster, turtles, I can get over an hour of BT on this dive, and it usually isn't crowded.

How far from TTR is Cozumel? We don't want to waste too much time travelling to go diving.

Boris is a good friend and I dove with him dozens of times.. Hell he helped me bury my wife's ashes on the Cruz de la Bahia.. I wear a tattoo of that day on my right forearm. But that being said.. There are three shallow dives he does daily. The cross(Cruz de la bahio), the underwater museum and the turtle grass off of dreams hotel near the point. Solo Buceo can hook you up on the WW2 wreck a couple of more technical reef dives and both Cenotes dives.. That about it for Cancun...
I hate to keep beating the drum about Coz.. But for ANY certified diver, that's the shit!!! There's more sites than you can ever dive while vacationing.. Simple to super advanced.. google the Devils throat if you don't believe me.. It's truy world class!!

It's an hour and a half drive.. But go early because traffics a bitch at rush hour.. Btw I love love love Freddy at Mezito divers.. He is in his late 50s and grew up on the island.. He's logged over 10,000 dives on Coz.. Classy operation.

Great thread! Visiting TTR next week for 10 days and want to plan some dives. We are 15 year experienced divers and prefer not to be corralled into a boat full of newbies. We have always dived Cozumel (the SR wall, Devil's Throat, Felipe Xicotencatl wreck, etc.) but are staying on Cancun this trip with non-diving friends.

Is the museum worth it? How 'bout the Cenotes? Any wreck dives off Cancun?

    Any insight appreciated!
