Replying to Steve's O/P... I tend to agree with him. Last night after getting back from 6day/5night stay at Desire RM (trip review pending, good time!), we went to dinner at home in Houston suburbia (not to divert too much but Houston Suburbia is one huge-ass place.... Like Torontioia or the L.A. galaxy... I think only Jacksonvill FL is bigger... but they don't have any 2 story buildings there... [LOL! poke-poke], and we engaged in adinner conversation with our buds about the TTR revisions/renovation or Rehabilitation as I want to call it. She's going to read this, so I mean this with love to her and all the nay-sayers and Doom & Gloom folks out there. TTR is NOT the resort, though having a resort helps. it is the people. So, in the short term, by all means, go hit GP, or Oasis S whatever the name is, or the Hard Rock.... or as in our case, we're going back to DRM for next year's early-year trips, some will go to Pearl (though I like the night-life and what happens too much for that - again, I will forward-reference to my pending trip review), in the interim. But, whent he shiny new, and perhaps too trendy (I've no opinion as I can't see it) resort gets to going, we'll be back! Everyone's hopes will be high and expectations higher still, but lets keep it real. As Steve said, there is NO competition for TTR, it's not out there. In talking with one of the business office guys we spoke aobut rates for the TTR as part of the usual schtick about memberships (we do check in on that from time to time, and yes we did get a great pre-upgrade deal-O, so put some money in Diego's pocket in return for more so-called "free stuff"). The numbers haven't been decided on by the upper management yet, meaning solid numbers to be put out there on websites, etc., but the thought is that the rates will be between 10-20% higher per night, and the new bad-assery range of suites will be quite a bit more -- but, as Steve also said, that won't effect the typical crowd (like us) who go for the experience, not the room itself. Let's face it. People complaining about how much things costs is going to happen. We all do it, it's the nature of the consumption of a resource, here cash, which we could, if we had other available options, spend elsewhere. But, We (the royal, collective meaning intended) are almost certainly going to come back for the environment, even IF, as it will, cost a bit more (yes, I consider a one-fifth increase a bit of an increase). I've not done the homework on this recently, but I ... think... that even at the increased rates, TTR will be in the middle of the field in terms of cost for Cancun's more pleasant A.I. resorts. Besides, where else can you go and have a band of nude, bisexual bodypainted cheerleaders take your wife off to have a 3-way G-on-G sandy photoshoot complete with the XXX-action? Nowhere, as far as I know. They didn't get in trouble for about 5 minutes either... Ha! I love TTR!
I for one don't mind a 20% price increase for better food/amenities/whatnot. But I wish they were not closing for so long. We have loved every single trip to TTR in April/October, and now I guess we'll try Desire.
... Good for you! I think you'll really enjoy Desire. The... for lack of a better term... "schedule" at Desire is a bit different than at TTR, and it takes a couple of days to really get in the swing of, but it's great. Costs more, but has lots of different, in some ways better, things to enjoy. The schedule thing boils down to the pool at TTR starts to warm-up with action around 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., with things really starting to pop at about 12:30 p.m.-ish, right? Then you hang around the pool until somewhere, depending nt he folks you are with 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., then (if you're smart) you go eat. At that point, you can go back tot he room, nap/shag whatever. Then, up at between 7:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. and go eat again, then back to the room to get dressed for the night out. At DRM, the pool starts to warm up at ~1:00 p.m. (my experience last week), and isn't really happening until 3:00-ish. But, at between 4:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m. the crew migrates up to the hot tub for party time (with all that entails, it's a good ime, just saying - and as with TTR, nobody forces anything on anyone). You're up there (we were anyway) until between 7:30 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. and it's time to go to eat. Eating just takes longer at DRM, so you are doing that until around 9:30 or so, then you go change into the outfit of the evening, and it's down to the nightly show t 10:00 p.m., which ends at ~11:00 p.m. and then up to the nightclub - depending on the night, you stay there until way late, or you leave and go back to the hot tub until way late. Thus, the late start at DRM for the general crew as nearly everyone is out/up until ~3:00 a.m. I know quite a few are up until the wee hours at TTR too, but face it, that's the minority. Most folks, say 80% or more, are in bed by 2:30 a.m.
If the quiet pool Jacuzzi rooms, neighboring rooms, and 5000 block area rooms go up 15-20%, and they tower rooms are the big priced ones, then I can see how this will work. We could spend the same amount of money, and go to the 5000 block, or pony up a little more for the same room. I'm sure they were surveying sun angles and all that stuff, so I'll just assume at this point that the tower won't be blocking the sun. If it does it won't be the first construction mistake ever made, but it would be a bad one. Assuming the new Patyo's is in the new outdoor location between the towers, that would also be a nice plus. Construction time? I can't believe it will be done that fast, but would love to be proven wrong. I wonder how much infrastructure work will be done with the existing rooms, as far as hvac and plumbing? Has anything been confirmed on the sexy and sports pools being joined?
I remember when Glenn and I first went to Blue Bay, people at night would just dress sexy without themes. The games were very sexual. People did not wear the slutty clothes or pasties at patyo's ever. There was a sexiness at night that is only there somewhat now. Now there seems to be a how sleezy can you go attitude. Themes although fun have changed what used to be a sexy bar to be and hang out. Individuality does a lot to drive the sexiness. Temptation will still have topless at the pool but it kind of looks like maybe they are trying to dull it a bit in their advertising. The new Temptation does not state it out right that they are topless. We just came back and I saw girls wearing everything from sheer dresses to pasties and panties at patyo's. There were girl out right licking each other at the bar lifting their dresses. Don't get me wrong I go naked on the cruise and sometimes secretly in the pool and I am not offended by nakedness. I just think there are places for it. At night though I want my sexy to come out not my pussy or my tits. We were there when Cancun Travelers Club was there. There was way too much slutty going on there. Everyone trying to top the next one. Girls dancing bottomless behind security while a friend made video. So worried that security guy will lose his job cause he didn't notice it. I hope when they come back that the vibe at night goes back to sexy people wearing clothes and not pasties, paint or just trying to top the next person's lack of clothes. I have no doubt that price changes will do a lot to do that and maybe eliminate some of the current slutines going on there now. The new rooms are beautiful and very sexy. If you really walk through the resort, check out ceilings, walls, railings, and even rooms. This resort is in bad need of updating and change. They did updated the gym with new equipment and that was awesome. I had a fantastic time either way but after 27 trips I have seen the decline in the sexiness that was once there. Slutty is not sexy. I am looking forward to taking some time off the resort, losing weight while they are closed and coming back and trying it again when it opens. Maybe we can lose the themes while we are at it.
Annual household income of existing clients ranges from $117K to $140K pa on average. Their target age group is 30-45 yrs. It seems they are trying to move away from the under thirties, which many here would support. That is quite a healthy income by most people's standards, it's not huge but healthy. The kind of people who earn that are not going to worry if their trip costs them an extra $350 over the week compared to this year. Those that can afford higher prices (and there are plenty of them) will look forward to the new rooms, those that can't will use the existing rooms. The majority of existing clientele will not be driven away by higher pricing. With the Canadian $ looking like a peso lately the increase over the last few years plus this one adds up quick. Thats a healthy income for sure, Canadian Soldiers don't make anywhere near that. And thats why when we scratch enough together TTR is where we want to spend our 7days. Being us and letting loose. Everything has to change I guess.
I think they are very off on average household income. Most people I know going there are nowhere near that, or close.
What happened to nobody knows you, and nobody gives a shit? We tend to really enjoy the themes as well and dress for each with the attending group such as the June Junkies, April Addicts, etc.
I did say I didn't give a shit but I am sure the hotel cares. They are a business after all. We have been there many April's, May's, September's and December's since 2002. We do themes but just not all of them. The themes when they first came out one or two days a week we're fun but everyday is a bit much. I never like dressing like my sister when I was a kid and still don't want to now. Yeah I miss wearing my sexy dresses and since I hardly make dinners I want to wear them. I know I rock those dresses too as I had a lot of compliments on them. I am not sure if you were there the past two weeks but there was about three different themes going on nightly. It was a bit insane. Glad you enjoy the themes, just said they were getting sleazier and sleazier and getting old.
