Just returned from our TTR vacation........ After talking with the concierge at the GP we were left with the following impressions: She welcomes many things that the TTR Refugees will bring to the GP, yet is skeptical that we won't go overboard on others. While being impressed when told that we enjoy dressing up for an elegant dinner, she expressed concern that some may dress too revealing or trashy. She commented that the Shangri La's new Chef would love to see a bigger turnout at his restaurant! The Shangri La restaurant is the GP's equivalent to the Il Piacere (Italian) at Temptation. When told that most of us prefer to dance late into the night, she commented that the GP regulars prefer to spend their evenings sitting at the Tiki Bar drinking. It didn't seem like it will be a problem to get some good dance music in the Sixties Lounge for us to enjoy. I doubt we'll be able to arrange for it nightly, but every fews nights should be doable. As far as going topless, we were assured that it would not be a problem at all! Although traditional tie side, thong and scrunch butt bottoms would not be an issue, we did get the impression that there was concern that the semi-transparent and "micro" variety could stir up the regulars. Daytime activities include: Beach volleyball, tequila volleyball, water polo, yoga, pilates, stretching and beach walks as well as others. Activities after dark include: Performances in the Galaxy Theater 4 nights a week and poolside activities 2 nights per week. The Sixties Bar is scheduled for a variety of events, such as: Karaoke, Bingo, a Billiards Tournament on Wednesdays and "Party Music" on Sunday nights. We'll keep in contact with the concierge so that we can make arrangements on the most appropriate nights for dancing! As far as Theme Nights go, we can always dress in theme for group dinners, attending the shows at the Galaxy Theater or nights at the Tiki Bar. The Tiki Bar would be a great setting for a "Ladies in Hawaiian shirts and their men in shorts w/no shirts!" This is certainly not going to be Temptation, but I think we can make the best of our situation and all have a great vacation together! Would love to hear some input. Joe and Lucinda
A little setback for us October refugees. The Concierge (Denise) that we spoke to on June 20th announced on facebook on June 27th that she has left the GP. This is very disappointing to Lucinda and I as she was very pleasant, welcoming and willing to work with us. I get the feeling that her departure was spontaneous as she didn't give us a hint of such plans when we spoke. Worst case, I am still going to show up with a laptop full of music and if they are willing, we will turn the Sixties Bar into a dancing hot spot! We'll show the GP regulars that sitting at a bar in a drunken stupor is not nearly as fun as dancing the night away in a drunken stupor! LOL I will give things a few days to settle then begin contacting the resort to see what kind of new contacts can be made. They would be fools to turn their backs on us as we are potential future regulars. Hey, with this crowd of TTR regulars we can make a good time out of anything! After all there is an all night hot tub, great restaurants and tequila volleyball! They even make "Paty'O Burgers" into the wee hours! The rest we can ad lib! Joe
Well shit, I hope GP doesn't announce they are closing too. So far it seems every aspect of our vacation is collapsing. But, like you said, we'll make the best of any situation. Old enough to know better, too young to care
We may be able to ramp up the nightlife to our satisfaction while at the GP, but I thought I'd also toss out a few 'off resort' alternatives as I dig them up. Here's one that sounded fun: 'Google' it and see what you think. Some great pictures online!
The group I'm with 30-40 people are wanting super hero night. On Oct 9th or 10th. Would appreciate it if you could add it to your list
