I know nothing can be as fun and sexy as Temptation (and Desire) but I'm interested in trying other properties with a similar vibe. I've read that Riu resorts, namely Riu Caribe, can offer foam parties, theme nights and day/night activities. Home For the most part, you can stay at one Riu and visit others. Just would like to know if anyone here has had good/bad experiences with any of the Riu properties in Cancun.
Some of our best friends (as vanilla as you can get) love Riu. The resort is a ghost town by 10 pm so everyone can get up for the breakfast buffet line when it opens at 6 am. After the excitement of the breakfast buffet they rest for the rest of the day in anticipation with the rest of the guests for the next morning buffet, sometimes talking about how good the buffet was. They tried Breathless one vacation and it was way too wild (and the breakfast buffet wasn't as good)... had to go back to Riu. They still talk about the woman who once wore a thong bikini at the Riu, scandalous. Also...very exciting is the silent disco, but also scandalous, who knows what music will be played.
Planet Hollywood in Cancun makes an attempt and, depending on the crowd in the adult pool bar, can be a party but still too many kids in the overall resort and too many prudes mixed in to really let it go. They do have games and foam days as well. Just no where near “wild”. The lobby bar gets some good late night party vibe going. But then a family and strollers cruise by…..
There are several different Rius in Cancun alone, are you referring to Riu Caribe? I've heard some are more relaxing, some are more for families and some, like Caribe, are more for partying. I learned what a silent disco is, and it looks ridiculous. I have no idea why that even exists. Must be a really good buffet, though!
We prefer adults-only, but there are several resorts that allow children, but aren't very family-friendly. In fact, many reviews for some of the Rius I've seen have said "kids allowed, but nothing for them to do" or "do NOT bring your kids here, parties are not appropriate" Planet Hollywood seems to be more kid-friendly, in my opinion.
We used to go to the El Dorado chain of adults only resorts. If you're looking for 4* accommodations and 5* restaurants (and lots of them), this is the place. The bar areas can be fun at times (rarely) but, as mentioned for other resorts, the place is crickets at 9:30 PM. There was not even a night club. It's really kind of hard to believe there is nothing between Temptation/Desire and the vanilla hotels.
I'm hoping there is something. For our past few visits to Cancun, we've booked at vanilla hotels in the Hotel Zone and partied it up in the area by Coco Bongos, Mandala, etc. We also made sure to book Boobs Cruises. We've had a lot of fun that way, and it's actually pretty budget-friendly. We miss the carefree feeling of all-inclusives so we are looking into options for December.
We have been to Riu Republica twice. It’s a good time! Their parties are great and the pools in the evening can get freaky—we went skinny dipping when we were there a few weeks ago. Check it out!
