We can't decide? Both resorts are about the same price and seem to offer the same things. Dreams does seem more kid friendly that I would like. I need opinons from all the cancun experts!!
I'm no expert, But I did stay at a holiday inn express last night  No really we stayed at Dreams in 05 and it is a great resort for families Plenty for the kids to do, movies at night on the big screen outside, things like that. lots of activities for kids. its a good resort for Mom and Dad to relax and be pampered. Can not comment on the Riu Cancun as we have never stayed there. I'm sure some one else will chime in on the Riu Have fun wherever you stay BM
March 15th will be my 7th visit to RIU Cancun. It’s a great hotel but I think the rooms are smaller than at Dreams. The rooms work great for me because I spend little time in them but I do not know if their small size would make it uncomfortable for a family. The only problem with the RIU Cancun (if you do not consider the rooms to be a problem) is they always overbooked. If you do not check in by noon there is a pretty good change you will be spending a night or 2 at the RIU Caribe. I have seen this happen on all 6 of my previous stays and was unfortunate to have this happen to me on my last visit. It also does not matter when you booked your trip, we booked 5 months in advance, it's first come first serve. It’s a pain to check into the Caribe one day, pack up all your stuff then and check-in to the Cancun the next. It really put a dent in my 4 night trip. I don’t know how hard this would be on a family. However, Dreams is about $300 to $400 more than the RIU.
I had a total brainfart!! I so didn't stay at a hoilyday inn express!! LOL We are not bring our little girl. I don't mind kids but don't want them every where. I would like to let loose a little and would not want to do that with a bunch of kids around. We staied a the moon Palace last year and it is very kid and family friendly but there weren't 100's of babies running around. (the moon is so big you hardly see the same people twice)
I have stayed at the Riu Cancun before and would not hesitate to return but I've decided Dreams for my next trip with my girlfriends From what I understand the kids don't seem to be running rampant around the place lol so I'm not too worried about this. As far as offering the same things I decided on Dreams because they offer MORE of the things I like aka room service and no reservation policy. I felt hassled getting up (hung over unfortunately) at 6am at the Riu to make reservations for the ala carte restaurants which I didn't like by the way . I also had a hard time making it down by 1030 for breakfast some days and would have loved to order room service and sleep a little more. I absolutely loved the Riu 24 hours sports bar for those nights when you're not tired but don't want to go out but the food availabe was pretty nasty to me except the nachos. No waiter service at the pool or beach at the Riu, they have these services at Dreams. At Dreams you can just order room service for those late night munchies. For me, these things are big differences so it depends on what you want. This is going to be for my 30th b-day so I want to be pampered as much as possible
You're 100% percent correct davissummer24, if you want to be pampered, Dreams would be the way to go. The Riu is a great homebase hotel because of its location but it's lacking when it comes down to the extras. It's also true that the 24 hour sports bar would be even better if the food wasn't so funky.
