A happy story or two: At the end of our trip last February we were on our way to the airport when my wife realized she left her diamond 10-year anniversary bands in the room. We got the driver to haul ass back to TTR, ran to the room, and the housekeeper smiled and handed her the rings.

Another night a friend left out some, uh, "contraband" and a few hundred in cash when he went out for the night. He ended up getting lucky and didn't make it back until the next afternoon. The bag with his "goods" in it was neatly folded on the now-clean dresser, right next to all his cash.

That's horrible that you had money stolen your first visit, but I'm sure this was an isolated instance. We have gone 3 times and not had one problem. On our last visit we moved rooms after 3 days. A few hours after we moved all our stuff someone from the hotel asked me at the pool if I had left my wallet in the room safe. Turns out I had forgotten my wallet in the room safe (unlocked) and luckily the maintenance worker or maid turned it into the front desk. They asked if all my money was there, but I had no idea how much I had so I said yes (it wasn't much to begin with ~$50 or so).

Hearing about a safe ripped off the wall is a new one, that would be interesting to try to explain to an insurance agent... I have learned to just leave the valuables at home and anything of sentimental value that isnt worth losing, regardless if my fault or someone else's.

The traveling safe we do use now would require taking apart an entire structure... if what little I have locked up is that important to someone, they can have it :)

Sadly, the money taken was the last bit of tip money, so in reality it only hurt their own co-workers/family/friends or whatever relationship it was that connected them to being able to access our room & safe.

Now it is time for the countdown... 45 sleeps to go... but that means only 46 days left of 2012, and 50 days to the big 4-0, YIKES
