OFF TOPIC Off Topic, but interesting: For all you web designers out there, take a look at http://www.web-wise-wizard.com/javascript-tutorials/disable-right-click.html It's really easy to make your content copy-proof, i.e. it can't be stolen off the page.
I've used several different javascripts to protect images, but most don't work in all browsers. In fact this one you found doesn't work in FireFox that I can see (the test doesn't work for me). Some of them will let you throw a message at the user and I like that because it gives you a chance to appeal to your user not to steal. But in the end if you know how to take a screen-shot and you can see an image you can steal it.
Surely to get round the no right click you could just view the source code and then find the url of the image and paste it into your browser?
The reality is that if you are computer savvy there's no stopping you (nerds rule the world and all that).
There's still more of them than us. Here in the land of endless 404 and 504 pages I think a simple couple of lines of script would provide a high degree of protection. You would be amazed at how few people know how to copy the screen to the clipboard (and even fewer know how to copy the active window instead of the whole screen).
So from what I can gather I have wasted my time by taping paper to the monitor and tracing with a pencil? that's going to make spreadsheets a lot easier!
attack on realty I am incredibly confused by the inital post here. The poster is complaining about I do not know what. The attachement of the web site shows some guy trying to sell with Unika Realty featuring "3 resorts in Cancun one price for all" for the price of US $600 million dollars. So if someone here has $600 million dollars for the 3 resorts go for it. If not I would totally dismiss this to a misunderstanding. As for realtors advertising units in Cancun on their sites that they do not represent that is not unique. That is how they get people to come and see them with the potential of selling them the unit. Unfortunatelly the real estate sales agents are not licensed as they are in the US or under the control of some government agency. Basically anyone in Cancun who opens and offices is free to name themselves as a real estate agent, hang a sign in front of their door and if someone goes to see them they can sell the units they find through contacts or friends. So any agent who can convince a resort with 3 seperate sections to let him advertise deserves the comission he can get. However based on the ad this guy shows it is unprofessional and totally does not tell much about the resorts, therefore I know if I had the $600 million to spend it would not be with him.
Mix - I've had several incidents in the past few weeks which illustrate your point perfectly. They involved regular joes who couldn't find a file if it wasn't in their My Documents directory, with often fatal results. File management appears to be a lost art... It's impressive how easy it is to be a nerd. All you have to be able to do is find a frickin' file in the root of your hard drive... And yes, this is a weird thread. I think the board has been too quiet of late, the natives are getting restless.
I too am finding that more and more users don't know how to think - figure things out using logic. They want spoon-fed step-by-step - on a program they've been using for years. They never takes notes, they'd rather call for help every time they have an issue. They wear you out. Grumpy Sue http://dentrodeljardin.blogspot.com/
