Thanks grandma for taking my request seriously Please let us know what happens even if it to tell us he didn't provide a source _____________________ Gringation I think playagrandma hinted at the reason: she would want to be able to spend more time out of Mexico than the 18 months of any five years permitted under an FM2
FM2 holders cannot be absent from Mexico for more than 18 months out of five years, so it is not for everyone. Our FM3's allow us to come and go as we please or as needed without having to worry about restrictions. We only want to spend 6 months or so in Cancun and not full-time. Additional information on the differences between an FM3 and an FM2 can be found at the 'sticky', What do I need FMT, FM 2, FM 3 ????????????
Playagrandma and others, Every tourist in Mexico may have been "granted" 180 days, which I doubt, but the form says "up to" and on the back it says "granted." Now, the policy may give the agents discretion, it may tell them just to give everyone 180, or there may be no policy and the agents just take the path of least resistance. Good for everyone if they get 180 days, so nothing to worry about if they stay more than what was planned or what was granted. As to your question, you have to turn something in when you leave the country. You could not re-enter previously on an FMT if you had "remaining" days. Presumably you cannot enter and leave on the same FMM more than to leave and enter (FM2 or 3) or to enter and leave if you are basically here on a tourist visa and the FMM is documentation thereof. Don't overthink this or you will drive yourself and all of us crazy, not just me. Ja ja.
