Hi my family and I are travelling to Cancun in 2 weeks and I am very upset to hear My Place is closing, although we have never been there I have heard such great praise on it that I was really looking forward to going...can anyone recommend any other places with this sort of atmosphere karoke etc, my mum and dad are in their fifties hence they have no interest in nightclubs but I know for a fact that My Place would have been right up their street.

Hacienda Sisal (located in front of the Royal Sands in the hotel zone) has a live band most nights, and happy hour prices on drinks from 10:00 PM to close. They cater to a more mature crowd so I would think your parents would like it. (They do not have kareoke though, jut live music and dancing.)

It's hard to believe that My Place is closing, it was truly a unique spot in Cancun's Hotel Zone. There really is no other place that compares to it however there are a few quiet places that exist.

Mostly there are quiet restaurants, but one bar, the Tragara Bar, is part of Laguna Grill. Overlooking the lagoon, this is a good place to go for drinks before or after a dinner at Laguna Grill. I also recommend El Fish Fritanga, a quiet place on the shores of the lagoon with excellent fish tacos. Another restaurant I recommend is La Palapa Belga, also overlooking the lagoon at the Imperial Laguna Hotel. Finally, one of the best places for dinner and drinks in a quiet atmosphere is Mitachi Beachside Grill at the Hilton.

Pancho's and Willie's is the bar attached to Captain's Cove, I think it's pretty similar to the My Place "vibe". They've got karaoke, "older" music and an older crowd than the discos.
