My way wss to smoke two packs and leave the but in the ash tray with one or two hits then absolutly need one I take a drag off one of them,:wuerg011:by the time all the butts were gone, I was done.when I drank we can't smoke in bars so when I want to smoke I just got another beer to drink and couldn't leave till it was done. It worked
I used to joke that quitting was easy....I had done it hundreds of times. I got sick one day and said to myself I was going to quit for a week and then go back to it when I felt better. And just to make it more difficult it was the first day of tax season when I'm under extreme pressure and working 80 hour weeks. The date was February 1, 2005. I felt better the next week and just never started again. Prior to that time I had tried the gum (lost a ton of fillings in my teeth), hypnosis (I did quit but found I had a new fondness for pocket watches), and the drugs which made me so damn irritable noone wanted me to be in the same county with me. All it took was just getting a really bad cold and that was after I had been smoking for over 30 years. BTW, I bought my Mini Cooper with what I saved in cigarettes. Yeah I put on a few pounds but I don't huff and puff on the stairs anymore. Would I go back to it again? Never, ever, ever would I smoke again.
when i did smoke it would cost me $7.00 a day for smokes.... smoked for 19 years before i stopped..... gave it up after our second daughter was born..... she will be 17 on march 12th.... so i have been cigarette free for 17 years... now i like a nice cigar from time to time..... but that still don't make me want to smoke again...
In the end as long as something works for you it's great. It's basically the only legal product in North America that has 0 good qualities. Even pot is good for some diseases.
This along with a heart attack eight years ago worked for me. The Doctor told me to notice when I smoked (all the time 4 pks a day) and make a note of it. After a meal, stopped at a red light, before bed, after sex,,,, etc. I spent two weeks doing that. After two weeks, the object was to wait 15 minutes. After dinner, want a smoke wait 15 minutes. Stopped at a red light want a smoke, wait 15 minutes. Did this for two weeks, then increased the time to 30 minutes. Seems like a lot but breaking a physical habit as well as a mental habit takes time. 45 days later I quit. Oh and drink lots and lots of water. I carried a water bottle with me. Wasn't easy, still get the urge, especially setting arond the sexy pool at TTR smelling all of the cigar smoke. But when the urge hits I wait and hour and now the urge seems to pass. Some days I still want a good cigar but the threat of dying(my wife will kill me) seems to keep things in perspective. Good luck and be patient. It takes time. We're pulling for ya. YOU CAN DO IT!!
thanks everyone. it really helps to hear all of the sucess stories, along with the struggles. I always hated it when my mom smoked when i was little, why the heck did i start. i thought it smelled horrible! and i was right!! it stinks!!!!! too bad i couldnt reason away chocolate too!!
I am a smoker, and yes drinking does trigger the want for a smoke. I use to hate going to downtown bars n clubs and not being able to breath. Come home shower, and still wake with a "nicotine" headache! I use to smoke a pack a day. I am a closet smoker, have a few family members that smoke, but i do not do it around my kid, anyone else's kid, and or family. I hope i go out with a bang at TTR, and come home not wanting them lil-white sticks. For the past year i have made a pack last me a week. Its the weekend i can't let go??? I don't smoke all day, i don't smoke in the car, its really for me, something i just need to let go of!!!! Good luck, i believe you wake up and say today is the day. Why the F@#! did i ever start these damn things....jimmy
