Ok we are also first timers going Jan 23-30. Wondering if there is decent snorkeling at the resort; also, are there loungers on the beach or just the beds? Do you have to pay for the beds? May seem like a stupid question but at our resort last year you had to be an elite guest to use them with a different colored wrist band.
If you want decent snorkeling you should go on one of the excursions. You might see an odd fish here or there at the resort but nothing you want to take a picture of. They have plenty of loungers on the beach and probably somewhere around 15 palapas. No - they are free - first come. Suz and I are always on the beach so I grab a palapa around 8am and we hang out there. When we get hot or want to watch one of the pool games, we go up to the pool for an hour or so and hang out there.
We tried the ATV "Jungle" tour 3 years ago and it was the scariest thing I've ever done. (and I'm in the Canadian army *L*) From our ATV breaking down and our guide leaving us in the middle of nowhere to safety equipment that didn't work right to no real jungle in the tour. We'd suggest checking out the speed boats.. they were amazing from start to finish and if you get up for the earliest tour you won't have to deal with many people. It was just us and the guide on when we went.
My husband went snorkeling in the water by the hotel seen a few star fish but nothing else really, take the day cruise over to the island or a different excursion, they offer different ones.
There are plenty of loungers on the beach & they are free but the beds I believe are for Premier members only. Maybe someone can verify this. You would think I would know being a member but I have know Desire to lay on a bed on the beach.
beach Yes, they have a section for premier members, not much of a difference except they give you cute orange towels and hugo the beach guy is one awesome server and will bring you food and some mexican hangover drinks....
Hi 4biddenpleasrs. Thanks for the advice. I would hate to waste one day of our vacation to a tourist trap. I will definitely look into the speed boats tour. Do you have pics of the tour? It might be something that other members would be interested in doing.
The best snorkeling is done on the booze cruise w/Steve . There is some great snorkeling on the way to and around Isla Mujeras .
