I always bring a Yankee hat for some of the bar tenders ive known for years, I always bring Pablo a Yankee shirt or something that say New York on it... __________________ Hey! Iv'e brought down Cardinal t-shirts and shot glasses for the bartenders, and in '07 i also brought down a case of 2006 Bud Light Cardinals World Champions 16 oz. special edition aluminum bottles for the staff!! Those went went quick!:ernaehrung005: BTW, whet in the hell is the deal wilth all the Met and Red Sox fan's that vacation down there?!
I always tell them if they ever visit up north then don't eat the yellow snow. They always look at me like what is wrong with this guy. Then I give them money and everyone is happy again.
Great idea, ShiekYerboottie, I'll have to pick up some Cardinals stuff before we leave Friday. The staff has to be getting tired of all the east cost team items.
Thought we would add our experience to some of these posts since we just got back from our visit. Best move we made was bringing 120 singles 100 in 5's and 100 in 10's and then several 100 in 20's. Here is why... It is a pain to get change down there. Seems like everyone wants to give you back pesos. You can get usd from the ATM on site but there is a large fee for that. Simply bringing usd with us saved us hassles that many others were dealing with. What we used the money for ( I will definitely leave some out but this is what pops into my head)... $1 a drink goes a very long way. Many a time I was picked from the pack for drinks because I always tipped. Others gave 20 to specific bartenders for the week and that seemed to work well also. $5 to the maid daily with what we wanted in our fridge also worked out very well. Several dollars for buffet got us drinks very quickly. 20 at the a la carte resulted in amazing service and staff would seek us out to say thank you. You will see that 90% really do deserve it as the service at the resort is quite amazing. We had a jacuzzi room right next to the quiet pool bar and the bartenders would come over to the tub with rounds as soon as they saw us out there. 10 or 20 ensured they kept coming back. Well worth your own personal waiter while in the tub! Ok enough for now. I am getting depressed reminescing.
I completely agree with you Jen&Kyle...the worst mistake we made was not getting the breakdown of cash you noted. I felt so bad digging quarters and misc. change out of my purse to tip the taxi driver for our return trip and the bell hops at the airport (I had about $5 in quarters!!). Both the butler and I tried in vain to break a $50 in USD in the last few moments of our last day, but couldn't find a place to, we could only get pesos and we weren't doing that on our way out.
Do not take this in the wrong way because I love that you tried your very best to tip... but US coins do them no good as they cannot turn them into the bank and no one else will take them. As an FYI... there are several places at the airport on the way out that will convert any remaining Pesos you have to dollars. Yes they probably work more around the 10 to 1 figure rather than whatever the current rate is but it is an option... Also if you want to give that special bartender or waiter a special gift, offer to change any coins he has for paper money. You will convert something that is usless to them into somehting of value and since you get the cions in return, it cost you nothing. Jamie
Do they know about Canada?? just a joke.....lol as we have the CFL . and the Alouettes won the championship this year.....So i have some cool things to leave them. I work for the team so easy for me to bring some things down and leave for the guys...
