I'd agree. Private school options in Cancun are good, lots of options. Both our kids go to private schools and both are growing up bilingual which is always a bonus. Have a few concerns when they get to teenagers but that is several years away for us/them. Private schools do cost though and an English teacher's salary probably wont be enough.
What is the current cost of basic necessities? Milk, bread, butter, etc? How much do you spend on an average shopping trip? I wish I knew where I could look up the price of diapers/wipes etc. on google somewhere. lol. This would make it much easier!
I have 2 kids one will be 2 years old tommorow and my daughter is 7 so we are a family of 4 our 2 week shopping is around 2000 pesos usually at Soriana http://www1.soriana.com/site/default.aspx?p=1398&temprefer=2617426 this link might help you get an idea on prices its in spanish so hope it helps you.
Thank you!! It's just me and mi hijito. He'll be about the same age as your 2 yr old when we move there. Thanks for the link! checking it out now! <3 cwins:
Here's a thread that may shed some light on it. http://www.cancuncare.com/forum/living-cancun-riviera-maya/16621-can-i-live-my-social-security.html You're not social security age, but the discussion is about the cost of a modest living here, in Cancun. Those who cannot meet the new, much higher financial requirements for a resident visa, based on existing resources, can simply leave every 180 days and return. http://www.cancuncare.com/forum/living-cancun-riviera-maya/25602-entry-exit-belize.html
Thank you!!! If a place says everything is included, even internet.... is there anything they are leaving out? Well aside from the daily necessities. I would probably just go back to America and get more stuff. I heard they are catching onto the Belize "day trippers" that just want the stamp and are bribing them(read it on here anyway). I'm wondering if it may be more economical to just buy a place. I mean if I spend nearly 10k in 6 months..... that could be a decent down payment to a place thats 89k right?
I haven't crossed the border at Belize but if I ran into requests for bribes from officials on either side I'd refuse to pay. Demands for illegal payments (bribes) come from dishonest employees who attempt to intimidate the unwary; bribes come from those who are intimidated, or just want to illegally buy some convenience. I never find it necessary to pay bribes, in any circumstance, because I don't offer to, mainly. Since this run only has to be made every 180 days, I would unhesitatingly incur the expense of a short ride to Corozal, and an overnight there. It is just ten miles from the border, is situated at the sea, and has numerous low cost accommodations to choose from, it seems. It also has a population of expats equal to 3-4% of the total population, so somebody is finding it an attractive place to live. Leaving Mexico with the intent to reenter, for the sole purpose of receiving another 180 days in country, is not prohibited under Mexican Law, nor was it under the laws as they existed prior to November, last year. If you get a job offer you'll have to exit the country and apply for a visa to reenter with permission to work in Mexico: you will be exchanging the inconvenience and expense of visa runs for the inconvenience and expense of dealing with INM every year! If you can pay cash, absolutely. Loans can be had here, for up to 70% of the purchase price, but interest rates are high. You'll just have to do the math when you know more about it. I don't know if this has developed further, or people have moved on, but I'll throw this in anyway- if you are married to a Mexican you can apply to change your immigration status from FMM (entry card, given to those who are entering Mexico visa free) to that of resident, in Mexico, and it is not necessary to apply for a visa abroad.
Thank you for your response and information! I am not married. hehe. I think I will stick to relationships and never think of marriage again for awhile lol. That is good info about Belize. I guess people just pay up because they are scared? I would love to go there and do the cave tubing/tourist ordeal. Further.... but fun at the least. When you said "If you can pay cash"... do you mean for the down payment or for the total cost of the home? I'd like to learn more about this if you don't mind explaining on here or through inbox. I'm just thinking that buying may be more economical.... but that of course depends on these interests rates that you mentioned.
