We bring a stack of 20 peso bills for tipping mainly because they are waterproof and i can just keep them in my shorts all day, in the pool or not. And, as i understand it for a lot of their day to day errands the people we are tipping have to exchange the us bills into pesos anyways (since they generally live outside the hotel zone).......i never researched this, but had a couple separate people say so. that makes it true, right? on a side note....we are with royal bank and you can place an order with them for whatever dominations of pesos you would like. they just need 3 days notice at the location we use. guessing that may differ from location to location
The Money Exchange store is giving 1 to 11.1 peso and they have it in stock Jess 1241 Donald Street/Ottawa
I, apparently, do not have a good enough job. I live in Boston, so I have an easy exchange rate $1=$1. For a week trip I usually take $200 in $1's for drinking. I fold them into quarters, stack them into $20 a stack, and stick them in the side of my swimsuit (I'm not a string girl...). I have a few $1's for breakfast, and when I run out of those 20 in my swimsuit, it's a check as to how many drinks I've had, and if I should slow down so I don't pass out before dinner. I bring $100 in 5/10's for dinner (if I ever make it there) and then $20's for USA Transfers and Boobs Cruise. I usually run out (or come close) and put any other thing on my card that I bring for the trip.
We have always used the International Currency Exchange to get Pesos. They have locations in a couple of Malls here in Calgary but they have locations all across Canada and International as well. BRANCH LOCATIONS - ICE - International Currency Exchange They usually have good rates.
We tip the maids well $5 or $10 every morning depending how well they left the room or if we left it messy from the night before. We get great service and extra beers in the fridge. All your valuable stuff is in the room just makes sense you pay them well, plus serving a drink at the bar takes the bartender 1 minute if that, cleaning a room takes 10 to 15 minutes depending the mess you left.
Our point of reference in US dollars - We tip $20-30 per dinner at the Asian, Italian and seafood restaurants. $5 per day for chamber maid, $5 per water sport activity or more like when instructed how to sail, $20 pecos after breakfast in buffet and random $5 to bar tenders.
