According to mark Twain there are three kinds of lies: Lies, damn lies and statistics. We also know that sometimes the stats in our beloved country of residence may or may not be accurate or up to date BUT....here they are for what they are worth. I think the percentages are probably right if not the overall total which seems low to me. Changes have also happened in the last 4 months and will continue to happen I am sure. They are predicting the loss of 20,000 jobs in Q.Roo this year. These are as published in Novedades today as provided by the Labour Secretary.
    -----------------------
Through the third quarter of 2008 for Q.Roo
    Total Population: 1,271,086
Under 14 years of age: 323,547
Over 14 years of age: 949,539
    Population economically active: 658,019
    Population economically inactive: 291,520
    Population employed: 633,414
Population unemployed: 24,605 (yes I'm sure that's what it says!)
    Salaried: 456,019
    Self-employed workers: 103,710
    Employers: 38,072
Population without income and others: 35,072
    --------------
(Don't ask me how the terms are defined--I'm not sure.)

Even counting the ones that get "laid off" or put into pots, there are probably more on the payroll than there were yesterday!! They have an active hiring program and a huge budget. However, they don't put much stock in "longevity" and certainly take the word "termination" all too literally.
