"Private message capacity 90% full" how do I archive?

Hi

I don't have that many private messages, but apparently I'm at 90% of my limit. How can I archive these? Do I have to download them, then delete them from my PM box? (I like keeping them here, for reference)

I tried creating a new folder and moving old messages there, but I was still at near-capacity.

One thing I wanted to point out is that it saves your Sent messages as well. I remember back when I got the 90% notice and I was like "hmm i don't really have that many messages". Then I realized there is a sent area, and there might be lots that need deleting from there. Here is a screenshot of the drop-down
