We also purchased at the same time, and spent a lot of money to do so. We bought it because of the airfare, you could fly anywhere in the world or 49 bucks a person. Then RCI was bought was out and they limited our points for flying to only 60,000 a year to fly with, we have 5 million points cant use then all in our life time. We where screwed and the resort never has made us any kind of offer to come even close to what we lost. We try every time we go, but they want us to give up what we have already paid for plus give them more money. From the sales pitch i heard last fall what you would be buying is a cheap AI fee for the furture, but there is a cause in the contract that every thing is subject to change. Dont get me wrong I love being a member and we loved the resort. We never want to go any where else, I see myself there in a wheel chair, in the furture years, I just want a little form premier, not much, but they will mot give an inch!
We purchased in 2004. The membership worked great until RCI & Premier had a fallout as Terry B has mentioned. At that time RCI began limiting point usage for airfare. This obviously pissed off everyone & when Premier wanted to redo contracts with an additional fee, most everyone refused to spend anymore money as they thought they were being screwed. And we were in my opinion. At this point we decided we could just absorb the loss or try to make it work with Premier. We did the breakfast tour on our next trip. Had breakfast with one of the sales ladies but when we went upstairs to the Premier office, we demanded we speak with one of the managers. We then proceeded to hash out a new contract that allowed us to continue to use points for airfare plus we received 9 free AI weeks to TTR. The $52 is the tax that has to be paid for the airfare. Are there stipulations? Of course there is. We can only use one free week per year. We can also only use 300,000 points per year though you can bank for a year & you can borrow a year ahead. 2 tickets cost us 90,000 points in October & in Feb they were 100,000 I believe. So you can see plenty for airfare for our two trips annually to TTR. The extra money that we had to pay for the new contract was the cost of two trips to TTR. At this point we are about even with 7 more free weeks to use & the ability to still use points for our airfare. Now as I have said before, every contract is different so what has worked for us may not work for some & may work better for others. I guess I just get perturbed when Premier gets bashed by people that haven't even sat down & discussed the membership with them. Some people don't want to be bothered when they are on vacation & that is fine & I respect that. I however am glad I took the time. It has saved us money & enhanced our trips. Now back to the basketball game opcorn:
if you notice the question marks after asking how much the going maintenance fees are??? i never heard of a time share that didnt have the yearly fees... maybe its not such a bad deal then......after its paid in full...makes for one hell of a cheap trip then.. i might just look into this then....
I think owning timeshares depends on how/when you acquired it. I bought Fairfield Point which is now Wyndham Vacation Resorts Point. I bought from ebay through a timeshare reseller which is waaaaaaay less than buying from Fairfield/Wyndham directly. Yes I pay yearly maintenance fees, but I use my points every year and don't feel as though I got raped. There's good/bad to timeshares. You just gotta hope you're on the Good side
My wife and I own Bluegreen Vacation Club and I use to sell it. I got it from Timeshares Only for only $5.00, his was he same package I sold for $22,000. We were able to get into Temptation though RCI as well, been pretty happy. I chalk it up to a wash with fees.
I, Mr., went to a joint in PA that was frequented by the hooitie tootie of congress and PACS and my room had it's own personal butler which was insane and frankly uncomfortable. I checked in and the guy wouldn't let me unload my suitcase. And after unloading my suitcase, he steamed everything...EVERYTHING...my obscene boxers have never felt so pampered. Every morning before I woke up, I had a fire in my fireplace with whatever wood I wished...my freshly pressed clothes laid out for me, etc. Did like the shoe shine though cuz I never do that. When I came back at night, again, I had the fire going, a tux prepared for me (I don't own one, but one was prepared from my sizes in the closet) and later that night a bath was drawn for me with rose petals and other smelly shit added to it, then a warmed robe and warmed slippers to get me to the bed which was 15 feet away...it was stupid. Can't say the company I worked (or technically still work for for a li'l' while yet) for was very bright though...they aren't...
It all depends on the membership and contract (we joined last year). We have $0 maintenance fees, BUT we do have a fee of $99 a year to stay with RCI. If we only want to use our membership at Temptation or sea adventure, then we don't have to pay the yearly RCI fee. So far we are paying the RCI fee, so that we can go to other places if we want. After a few years if we only go to a Temptation owned places then we will probably cancel the RCI membership and have no fees. Again, this is my contract from last year. This year they might be pushing something completely different.
We booked through a friend under vip option, truth is, have no idea what the benefits are now...had that changed? Sent from my SM-G920W8 using Tapatalk
