We take our travel mugs, but generally if ordering a drink you have to ask for a straw. Also they use mostly all actual plates, silver ware glass ware, coffee cups. So I would give them a 10 as far as resorts go on being green.
Never mind the straws what about all the cigarette butts that contain all kinds of carcinogens in the discarded filters that make their way into the water system ?
They blend well with the PCB’s and Hexvalent Chrome from all the processing plants and they give the fish their nicotine fix !!
I find getting my straw is easy. The really challenging part is catching up to the turtle and sticking straw up it's nose! I usually have to give up and put it in the garbage.
Never mind all that just think of all the waste from spandex, nylon, polyester, and things like that. Save the wales. STOP WAREING SO MUCH CLOTHES.
I work in the US Merchant Marine and am on a ship at sea about half of the year. I can tell you that I have seen a significant uptick in garbage/plastic in the oceans and harbors in the last few years. While shopping bags are bad, you would not believe how many patches of balloons I see. You can tell when it is wedding season based on the number of partially inflated bunches of balloons tumbling around on the sea surface. But as bad as plastic is, there are many other environmental concerns out there. There is an area off the delta of the Mississippi River known as the "dead zone". This area is devoid of life, the water turns from the deep blue of the Gulf of Mexico to a blackish color. This is caused by all of the runoff that goes into the Mississippi River... chemicals, oils, and worst of all agricultural fertilizers. You will never forget the first time you sail into a patch of dead fish and sea life floating on the surface as far as you can see.
There are many factors contributing to the hypoxia area at the Center Gulf, and the dead zone has beeen in existence since at least the mid 20th century. The use of ag fertilizers relative to actual crop production is consistently dropping, and will continue to do so. The elimination of natural flood plain areas along the rivers is another large factor to the problem.
Imagine if all the silicone boobies exploded how much of a pollution problem that would create . Hazmat teams all over the world would be inundated with work .
