Mario and I would like to join you two. I would love to do the snorkeling. We'll talk more when we meet again. It's coming soon.
Hey Trish how are you thinking we will get around the island? Kurt is a little leery of the golf cart thing (I want to do it on a moped but I have been denied. Good to know he wants me alive I guess.) were you thinking golf cart or is there transit? Or can we walk it? Sent from my SGH-I747M using Tapatalk
I'm sure we can work something out. We walked it last time we went, but we also saw taxis going up the main strip too. I'm not sure I trust the golf carts myself if I'm honest!
I might join too depending on cost and how much money I have left. I'm going to get some pesos and USD next week - how exciting that it's almost time to use them.
I am not staying at the resort, but might also be interested. We can chat on the Boobs Cruise on the first. I was also maybe wanting to jaunt out to Isla Holbox. I travel this route often and have never spent an entire week in Cancun, I kinda like the more laid back areas of North Playa, Akumal and Mahahual. Givin it a shot though as I was given a smoking deal on a 2 bedroom penthouse condo quite a bit South of TTR. Cheers all:flagcanada: Happy almost Rememberance Day
Trish Hola Lola and I would be up for that. Jax is the best. We were also thinking about Xe Ha have you ever been there? Danny
Ok as previously mentioned, further details of what my plans are for my trip to Isla Mujeres are outlined below. The point of the trip for me is to do some fun non-TTR stuff, for a change of scenery. It's going to be quite a packed day, however, of course if you decide to come with us, you don’t have to stick to our schedule either. If you want to do your own thing, but would like company on the ferry or want to just meet up at Jax for lunch, that’s fine too. Times I plan to leave resort at 10am. We'll be waiting in the lobby from 9:30. My plan is to catch a taxi once we land on the island to the South side (a beach club snorkel spot), then an hour or so later catch a taxi back to the beach at the tip of the North side (Playa Norte), then walk back down to the main street and grab lunch at Jax Bar about 1:30pm, and then get ferry back over to Cancun around 4pm (whichever return ferry is closest to 4pm), leaving plenty of time to get ready for 'dress to impress' theme! Golf carts Re golf carts, a lot of people on here say that hiring a golf cart is a highlight of a trip to Isla Mujeres, but I don't think this is on our schedule. Last time we were on the island we were quoted 950 pesos for the day, which for what I have planned and time I'd be using it is a bit of a waste for me. Apart from the main downtown street I only plan to visit two areas (Garrafon and Playa Norte), for which it makes more sense to just catch a taxi to/from. There's taxis in the main downtown bit, which are much cheaper than hiring a cart for the amount of time I plan to be travelling. Also, it takes time to rent/drop back off the cart, which I could be using for doing more fun things on the island! That being said, if anybody wants to hire a cart though, don’t feel that you can’t just because we don’t. As mentioned before, I'm perfectly happy if people want to do their own thing and just meet up at lunch. Prices If you are interested in doing some of the things I have planned, prices are: 1. Ferry (round-trip) from Embarcadero: $17 each 2. Taxis to/from south side of the island: not entirely sure but doubt more than $15 3. Entrance to Garrafon de Castilla: $5 each 4. Snorkel gear and locker rental: approx $15 each 5. Lunch and drinks @ Jax Bar and Grill: approx $30 each. Embarcadero ferry This is the tourist ferry that departs from the pier where the Pirate Ship is docked, a bit up the road from TTR. It costs $17 each for a round-trip. It’s more expensive than catching the ferry from Puerto Juarez (the public ferry that’s a bus ride away), but for the ease of being right next to the resort I think we’re going to take the easy (but more expensive) option this time. Snorkeling There’s a beach club (Garrafon de Castilla) on the south side of the island that’s an ideal place to wade into the water and snorkel. It shares its shoreline with the expensive eco reef park next door, so is a good spot for shoreline snorkeling. I enjoy ‘beginner’ snorkeling, but wouldn’t do it off a boat out in the ocean, so this is a nice compromise for me! It’s a $5 entrance fee into the beach club, and they provide lockers/snorkel gear rental, as well as a café, bar, beach chairs/parasols and shower amenities too. Playa Norte Playa Norte on the north side of the island is the most amazing beach I’ve ever seen. The views are breathtaking, pure white sand and shallow clear blue sea that stretches out for what looks like miles. It’s a fantastic photo opportunity for some PG shots away from the resort! Jax Bar & Grill Jax Bar and Grill is an American-themed sports bar that serves Tex-Mex type food. It has a roof terrace and is right across from the beach in the main downtown bit of Isla Mujeres. The food is nice and the beer is cheap. Last time we were there, Russ and I got an ice bucket full of Corona for less than $7! I’ve heard the food can take a while to prepare though, so we’re hoping to be at Jax by around 1:30pm at the latest, to make sure there’s time to order food and still make the ferry back. Souvenirs If you’re looking to buy any souvenirs for back home, I found that the street vendors on the little side streets that you pass on the way back from Playa Norte to Jax Bar offer better value than the shops along the main strip of the downtown area. It's about a 15 to 20-minute (slow) walk back from Playa Norte to the main street. What to bring? Some things I’d recommend taking with you whilst out of the resort: 1. Cash. You’ll need cash for taxi fare and entrance to Garrafon de Castilla (if you plan on doing Garrafon with us). Everywhere else will take card, but for those two things you’ll need cash. Everywhere accepts US dollars so don’t worry if you don’t have Pesos. 2. A towel, if you’re planning to snorkel @ Garrafon or swim @ Playa Norte. Don’t bother with the big ones you get from the resort’s towel hut. A small hand towel from your room will be good enough. 3. Bring bottled water from the resort. Buying water is expensive, so why pay when you can refill and bring one of the free bottles from your room? 4. If you plan on hiring a golf cart, you’ll need your driving licence. They take your licence as collateral until you return the cart.
Trish, the beach looks amazing..... it may just be me joining your crew on the 4th...my hubby likes his afternoon siestas while on holidays
Look at all that organizing and info! Love it! Thank you so much for putting all that together. I think it's going to be a great day! Sent from my SGH-I747M using Tapatalk
