thats probably exactly what they will do too. when they shut down maple leaf gardens they auctioned off everything in it i believe. now its being turned into a grocery store :?
I had a bit of a lump in my throat looking at those picture's and thinking what it'd be like to watch the last match at my football teams stadium ( Hillsborough ) . . Are they pulling it down and moving elsewhere to a new stadium then ? Ian :-| PS. Excellent picture's BTW... Proper fans photo's if you ask me
yes they are Ian. They are building the new one (just about complete) literally right across the street. It will be ready for the start of next season in April. It's a f**king shame if you ask me. That stadium has been there in that spot for 85 years and saw more great moments than anywhere else. And now they are tearing it down in favor of a new stadium with more luxury box space for all the corporations and rich people. F**k the true fans, and reward the money people who could give a s**t about the Yankees. I'll still be sitting with the Bleacher Creatures out in right field, getting drunk before the game because we were too rowdy once upon a time and they took away our beer privileges. Aint that some s**t?? The most hardcore, devoted, lifelong fans in the universe and you wont even let them drink beer because we get out of control. How about you just put up a protective barrier to shield the rest of the world from the bleachers and let us go at it like the animals we are.
They did the same in Indy with The Colts and hell, they can't seem to win in the new stadium. Ha! The Dome was aging but it still had some years in it. I suppose pulling in the Superbowl was also a reason for a new stadium (more seating). One thing that I'm sure of is that the Yankees won't have a problem winning in the new stadium. But it does suck. Like you pointed out, there are countless, historical sports moments that occurred in the old stadium. How is one to have a good time? No beer? Somebody is losing money out the @ss on that one.
Great Pics Venom!!!! I know how much you love the yankees so I'm excited to see you made the final game. I can't believe you didn't mention it when we chatted on Saturday - guess the "beverages" were flowing. Thanks for sharing!!!
Your right in so many comment's here and it's sad to see the authorities that run the sports across the globe have been taking ' mirrowing ' actions if you know what I mean. The bleachers sound like the ' Terraces ' of old that you'd find in football over here, They consisted of cheper entrance fee, standing only not seated and the best attmosphere for a sporting venue known to man. You could get a good few pints, sing your bollocks off cococting rhyme's to encourage your team onto victory whilst abusing the visiting fans'still your hearts content ( and not too long ago, if you were into that sort ofthing engage in a tad of fisticuff's with like minded individuals following the opposing team   ) . I've travelled the lenght and breadth of England ( ok, dont laugh, It may look a small island to some of you lot but it's f*cking huge to us ok ) ! You try travelling 300 mile's to Plymouth away on a -10degree February Tuesday night to watch a 0-0 draw then find the windows to your coach have been bricked through and the forthcomming six hour journey home can only be described as a trip to antarica and back, twice. ) and then question someone's dedication to the sport, What severley pisses me off is the current pricing structure and stadia construction, which unfortunately I reckon your about to experience over there . Following a tradgedy at a football stadium over here where 97 fans lost there live's a goverment report deemed that all stadia in the top league's must have all seater stadium ie no terraces and alcohol was banned, In my eye's this has killed off the attmosphere as it dispersed the ' terrace element ' , basically the element of every club in the country that provided the attmosphere at every game. Lot's of clubs originally converted the terraces to seats but many have moved to new, out of town purpose biuilt stadia that have dispersed the old terrace attmosphere even further and even worse catered more towards the coperate box holding fraternity that give absolutely fuck all in the way of emotion, passion and verbal backing to the team on a match day. Just look at our so called national flag ship, Wembley stadium just after half time when England play.. The third tier is made of coperate box's and the occupants are in hospitality 10 mins before half time and then ten mins after leaving tens of thousands of seats empty..  The move to this type of seating / hosting of matche's just fueled my love of following Wednesday ' away ' as it were. When we travel away it's like a big boys club, were all sat together at the match, prior to that we've all travelled together ( envoking the many experience's and scenario's that evolve's  ) invarably we've been on the piss for a few hours before hand but more so we enthuse concentrated passion and verbal support for our team because were not split to the four corners of the stand. I challenge any football fan in the country to dispute my comments. Anyhow, I'm rambling on but I reckon you know what I'm getting at. I hope the new Yankee's stadium live's up to your expectaton's and I look forward to seeing ' fans photo's ' of the game's.... and when I'm across there next one of you lot can take me to a game  Cheer's folks. Ian.
Ian. Your experiences at the football stadiums over there are exactly what I feel here. The bleachers used to be a place for all of us degenerate, baseball loving, fistfighting, hard drinking fans with a heart of gold. A place to stand together as true fans. Even the players on the team knew the real fans resided in the bleacher seats. While all the corporate seats in the "best" area of the stadium were either empty or filled with people who "knew someone" to get the tickets, we were packed into our little corner and damn proud of it. Anytime you want to go to a game over here, I would gladly be your host.
Well said Ian, i wish the Prawn Sarnie Brigade would just f**k off and leave us too it. It's not just what happened after Hillsbrough that has ruined football add to that the Sky generation, the making of the Premier League and the new format European Cup. The demolishing of Old Wembley for the new Corporate bowl was just hte icing on the cake. Within time England games will become unfashionable again, the big 4 will move onto a European league and real football will be left to us again. Safe standing is only a matter of time away surely? They have it in Germany and the atmosphere's over there are much better. Love my away trips with Albion & England. Like you said, it's a big boys day out where you have blokes all in the same place to do the same thing.
