AT&T worked fabulous for me last week. Full bars everywhere I went. Did the 5.99 then .59 cents a minute plan plus a 20mb plan for $26 so I could check my gmail once a day.
I'm Canadian & even with our brutal cell companies, I had no issues - texting, email & blackberry messenger all worked fine - I'm not exactly sure how much it's going to have cost me, but I'll worry about that when the time comes...
make sure you leave the plan on for a week or two. couple of years ago ATT didnt get the charges from mexico for a full two weeks after we got back. i had canceled the plan when we got back and they charged me the full rate,. took two supervisores for them to go back and reduce the fees.
anyone from Canada ever use the Rogers CALA ( Carribean /Latin America plan) I don't think it's a deal at all ($25 for 15 min and $1.67 each min after...kind of a rip off ) , unless there's another international plan I don't know about. I think the $12 phone card sounds fine to me! I also hear you can get mexican cell phones for 400 pesos ( $33 CDN $32US with 300 pesos of airtime ) if you absolutely need a cell
we buy phone cards at the gift shop and use the phones at the road.Never use the reort phones. One trip my husband was to loaded and lazy and didnt want to walk there so we used resort phones and got the bill from my mom for 100.00 for 3 phone calls home.wont do that again!!!!
I see people posting on here their recommendations to purchase a phone card and use the pay phones outside the resort. What if I purchase a phone card and use the hotel room phone? Are people suggesting that its too expensive to do that? If so, can someone clarify? Do you mean that your phone card gets used up quicker? Or do you mean that the hotel will still charge you a fee even though you use a phone card?
att works very well. used it for the passed few years. sure beats a $50 credit card land line call if hung up or delayed. since we adopted a now 7 year old he gets to check on us daily. well worth it.
We have Verizon and just puurchased an unlimited "Mexico Month" for $15.00. It satrted 6/1 and turns off on 7/1. Easy........everybody has those numbers.....and the price and convenience was /is perfect!
We have always used the phone cards, you can get one for I think $10 next door at the convience store and it has always lasted all week for us to call once or twice. You can call from there so you don't have to use the pay phones along the road. If you buy in the US, the connection uses about 12 minutes. If you buy it there at the store no connection fees since it is a company from mexico. rather then a US company. We had to deal with the credit card calls our frst trip. NEVER AGAIN.
