I searched but could find an answer to this.

We went to the bank today and they only had big bills in Peso dominations.

Does anyone know if we can change them for smaller denominations at the resort?

Yes, you can ask the front desk to break into smaller bills in usd or pesos. That said, if you only stay at the resort, the staff accept tips in usd. We stopped bringing pesos after our first trip lol

We've been to Cancun 35+ times and never had pesos. We put everything but tips on a card and always ask them to do the charge in pesos, not dollars. Most credit card companies have a much better exchange rate than retailers do.

I am from Canada. I forgot to mention.

So it makes more sense to transfer into Peso.

We found out the front desk should be able to handle this.

    Thanks All!

That's probably correct, but I'm not so sure about using the front desk. Our experience is that their exchange rate is considerably higher than anywhere else.

Just get a couple hundred bucks for tips and charge everything else.

We used the front desk our first trip. Much easier than the exchanges across the street.
