After more than a year of illegal parking by construction workers lining both sides of the street from the Cancun Palace all the way to the Ritz Carlton, while the hotels' parking lots and garages remained only partly occupied, the Transitos cracked down yesterday.

Three Transito Fords and several motorbike officers descended on Retorno del Rey yesterday, placing parking tickets on windshields and removing the license plates, front and rear, from the offending vehicles to insure prompt payment. The yowls of pain were heard well into the evening.

Today, in what appears to be an egalitarian effort by the hotels' management, room for their workers cars was magically made available within the hotels' boundaries and off the street.
