McCain's admission that he would tax employer health benefits has made a bigger impact on voters
than Obama's remark that he wanted to spread the wealth......

Michael, do you pay for your staff's medical benefits ???

Here's the part that I don't like about his proposed reform on this tax code... directly from his website...

"While still having the option of employer-based coverage, every family will receive a direct refundable tax credit - effectively cash - of $2,500 for individuals and $5,000 for families to offset the cost of insurance. Families will be able to choose the insurance provider that suits them best and the money would be sent directly to the insurance provider. "

    www.johnmccain.com/content/default.aspx?guid=8475c713-a541-4b97-a2aa-800e35da37bb

This money will be sent to your insurance provider and any amount left over can be deposited in Health Savings Account (which if these are Flexible Savings Accounts (used for medical/dental expenses)... then they are use or lose. If you do not use the balance before the end of the year, you lose the balance).

Here's my scenario... My current insurance provider is currently in "battle" with quite a few of this area's medical providers. I recently received a letter from the largest medical organization (which houses just about every specialist here in our area (oncologists, endocrinology, cardiologists, etc) that informed me that they would no longer be honoring their agreement. It appears that neither the insurance provider or the physicians want to come to an agreement. Thus leaving many around here paying insurance that really isn't worth a damn. And just for the record... I have Federal Blue Cross/Blue Shield, so it's not some upstart insurance company. Do you honestly think that I want my "credit" to go to some greedy bastards that can't seem to work it out with even greedier bastards?

So now instead of being a preferred provider, I now get to pay out the ass for my insurance premium every paycheck for even less service. Reminds me of a Warren Buffett quote that I heard recently: "Be fearful when everybody is greedy, but be greedy when everybody is fearful."

you should live here, ,you might think differently

Perhaps the U.S. should pull out of Chicago?

    Body count:

    In the last six months:

    292 killed (murdered) in Chicago;

    221 killed in Iraq.

    Chicago.... Who Runs it:
Senators: Barack Obama & Dick Durbin

    Rep: Jesse Jackson Jr.,

    Illinois Gov: Rod Blogojevich,

    Illinois House leader Mike Madigan,

Illinois Atty. Gen. Lisa Madigan (daughter of Mike),

Chicago Mayor Richard M. Daley (son of Mayor Richard J. Daley)

    .....our leadership in Illinois.....all Democrats.

Thank you for the combat zone in Chicago.

Of course, they're all blaming each other!

Can't blame Republicans; there aren't any!

State pension fund $44 Billion in debt, worst in country.

Cook County (Chicago) sales tax 10.25% highest in country. (Look 'em up if you want).

Chicago school system rated one of the worst in the country.

This is the political culture that Obama comes from in Illinois. And he's gonna 'fix' Washington politics for us?

    Wake Up America!

Actually the statement above is quite offensive. "Why do Canadians have such strong opinions", The US is the self proclaimed last supreme power, having bestowed upon itself that proclamation carry's a heavy burden. Yes, most countries will agree that this is the case. The US has more military might than most other countries combined. They also have the financial clout that burdens many other countries as well. As the US goes, so do many other countries go. When the US finds itself in the middle of a financial meltdown, most of it self induced through the meddlesome influence of the high and mighty (also the highest risk takers) and outside countries have no control over the downward spiral, but are in essence caught up in the downward spiral, notable resentment creeps in.

We have no control over the outcome of your presidential elections but we do have a vested interest in the outcome.

Reading through this debate and other similar debates I am struck by the oddicy of statements such as (this is verbatim) "Vote for Obama and you are voting for communism", How So? The most left wing US policy's are still right of our most right wing policy's here in Canada, yet I don't believe any of us Canadians feel we are part of a communist regime.

We have an excellent health care system, there is leaks and fallacy's and things, but, I don't have to worry about going in the hospital and losing my life savings. Last year I spent six days in the hospital, the first night in Emergency, the second night in a general ward and the next 4 nights in a semi private room. I was subjected to numerous tests, I was given copious amounts of medication, I was put to sleep and tested for various ailments and upon release I never paid a dime. That is not communism, that is a health care system geared for the individual relief of the general public. My wife gave birth to two beautiful kids, never once did I worry about medical costs.

My taxes are higher than yours, but not to the detriment of a private citizen being able to achieve untold wealth. Of the wealthiest people worldwide, Canadians have a disproportionate amount of members in the top 50. We have 1/10th the population of the US, yet we have more than 1/10th of the wealthiest individuals in the world's top 100 list relative to the US.

I have been following the US election with great interest. I have been reading many articles in Rolling Stone magazine. Sure it is a left wing magazine, geared towards the artsy type of people amongst us, however, it is quoting written recorded facts when it slams McCain. Yes he was in the army and was a POW for 5 1/2 years, but he was also there through his father's influence, had his father not been who he was, he would have been kicked out of the navy after crashing his first plane, never mind having the opportunity to crash 3 more. Again, he was a POW, but having given up his pedigree (rather than rank and file and nothing else), he was a trophy POW and not subject to the brutal attrocities that other POW's faced.

He was 6 weeks from being married at the same time twice. His divorce and subsequent marriage was separated by a 6 week period, but beyond the obvious ("how could he meet, fall in love with, date, propose etc., within 6 weeks and never been involved with this woman before the breakup of his first marriage"), he was living with his second wife during the tenuous relationship with his first wife.

Hypocrasy reigns it's ugly head once again.

His well known temper makes him unfit to be president. To call his wife a stupid C*** ("C"see y"U"o "N"ext "T"uesday) is simply unfathomable. The anger for which he is widely known to posess makes him entirely unfit to have his finger 6 inches from the button which will anniliate us all.

You ask, why do Canadians care? This is not an election to decide who shall sit in the seat as president of the US. This is an election to decide who shall sit in the seat of the post of the self-proclaimed and justifiably so, last remaining superpower of the world.

The arrogance displayed by your original remark is extremely nearsighted and said with a set of focal lenses. Think about your remarks and think about your vote, you are not strictly voting for you, you have a burden of representing the free world.

Consider that when you cast your ballot.
