We flew out of Toronto and are allowed 40 kg's (44 Lbs) for 2 bags and our bags tipped the scale at 35 kgs when we left, last week we returned and our bags were 42 kg's or 7 kgs (15.4 Lbs) heavier than when we left and we didnt purchase anything, all the suntan lotion and toiletries we used should have made our luggage lighter but wasnt so..I asked to see a superviser and told them of our problem and informed them we would take a couple of items out of our bag and put in the carry on as we only had to lighten our bag 2kg ( 4 Lbs), we were then informed that we would have to go to the end of the long line-up AGAIN if we wanted to do this, this wasnt an option as my wife has had two back surguries and i informed them of this and was DENIED and forced to pay the 20 bucks..When I returned I informed Air transat of this and they didnt give a shit...
Seriously... humidity can't be that much of a factor... we're talking about kilograms not milligrams.
We fly out of Pittsburgh Pa and they've been actively checking the weights for about 1 1/2 years. We've always been lucky and never had an issue either way. Not sure if it has anything to do with the airlines or not tho.
I agree I agree, when i first read your post and some of the comments i thought that maybe humidity could be an issue, but i cant imagine it making pounds and pounds of difference. Last year I was dreading cuz I was almost broke when arriving at the airport after vacation and numerous people in line had similiar problems with jet blue and person after person complained that they added nothing during their stay, how could they now be so far over.... not sure how that happens. but I would love to know
If it was one or two people then ok.. they made a mistake. But if it's happening over and over to a lot of people then I'd guess we're getting scammed. Just something to watch out for.
Jet Blue loves overweight charges! They tried this on me. I said there was no way the bag could weigh 6lbs. more and they reweighed it on another scale and it was true. Make them try another scale.
Just returned from seeing my travel agent and told her the whole story, she informed me to watch out for check in people putting their FOOT on the scale without you realizing it and charging you, apparently they are doing this and getting paid for it from the money they collect...
luggage One thing I can say for the Handheld scale was the luggage weighed the same on their scale as my little hand held one so it was accurate for me. Think I am going to give them as christmas gifts this year to the traverlers on my list!!
