This is not just a Cancun thing,, we witnessed it in Jamaica too They know the last thing tourist want is to create a scene in a foreign airport and miss their flight
They tried this on me once in Cancun maybe 3 yrs ago. I was 5 lbs. under going and was coming back with less stuff. I insisted that there was no way it was over and needed to be reweighed on another scale. On the other scale, it was 7 lbs. under.
We havent had this problem, but last Oct, they got my husband on bringing cigars into Mexico, he had more than allowed, they would not let him give them to my daughter or I to bring in, nor would they let him throw them away, he had to pay a tax on them for almost what he paided for them in the states. I guess we will just hope for the green light when we come this time
Wait?? So does this also apply to bottles of alcohol u pack in your checked luggage? We were planning on bringing several of our favorite cake vodka with us as Im doubtful we'll be able to find it there? does anyone know if there is a limit on bottles? Jess
Ok....thanks! I never knew that. Thats good to know! Woulda been pissed if we'd gotten stopped & had to pay a ton for having them! :blueshock:
Mexican Customs Requirements - Baja Bound Mexican Auto Insurance A few items possibly apply to a TTR trip...namely, "Items allowed in your personal luggage include..." "... three speedboats with or without sails and accessories, one stair stepper and bicycle" Because speedboats (didn't know speedboats needed sails) and stair steppers are so easily packed in personal luggage "... Five toys (may be collectible)..." What makes a toy collectible? A full-size GI Joe action figure with the bionic eye magnifying glass, all in its original packaging? Or double-headed toys in their original box...or other "boxes"? sorry, drinking vodka "... One set of binoculars, one telescope..." for watching balcony shows? "... Tent and equipment for camping..." in case you get bumped and last but not least... "... Up to three liters of liquor AND six liters of wine (if bringing more than allowed, you must declare it and pay duties)..." A whole 9 liters of booze per person...why the fuck not?
My friend attempted to do this but they insisted they couldn't do it up at the counter and they would have to go to another area and then go to the back of the line. They paid the extra cost but they were not very happy about it. I believe I will get one of the suitcase scales.
We've had problems 2 of the 5 times we have traveled to Cancun. Both times they said we were over weight when in fact we were at least 10 pounds under. They initially wanted us to pay for over wieght bags in cash and on the spot. But, once I asked to speak to thier immediate supervisor, thier tone changed. Maybe it was the fact I speak spanish? Who knows? Both times our bags were suddenly under weight and we were allowed to pass.
