This might help you out a little.

I have been in search of some local bands myself. I heard that Hard Rock Cafe has a live band.

I guess it depends on the type of music you like.

Cancun Palace used to have a good local band but that was years ago.
Pat O'briens also had a good one.
Let me know what you find out.

    Thanks,

There are live bands at Dady Rock, the Bulldog Cafe and Hard Rock Cafe generally. Downtown you'll find live music at Los Arcos and El Asador. Rock music that is.

For live salsa, there's Melao, Sabor Latino, Azucar and I just noticed a new place called "Rincon Cubano" near Yaxchilan that by all appearances is the newest salsa club in town though I have heard nothing about it.

I would recommend going to Avenida Yaxchilan, downtown, if you want to hear local bands, who are into their music and not performing for tourists.

Like Cancun Canuck suggested, El Asador and Los Arcos but I would also add La Hach. The first two are in the same building, one on the ground floor and the other upstairs. Then walk out to the street cross it and then cross the side street and you are at La Hach.

Take the R-1 or R-2 bus to the downtown area and then flag a taxi for 15 pesos. Tell the driver "Los Arcos en Yaxchilan" (Yash-chee-lahn) If he does not know it by name, say "En frente La Taberna" which means in front of, or across the street from La Taberna, which is a well known local sports bar.

    I second that.

And T.J.'s right about La Hach having live music as well.

Personally I am not a big fan of La Hach. I just don't care for the atmosphere for some reason. But I know many who love the place.

It's been remodeled but the landlord is still a pain. It is my least favorite of the 3 but they play some decent classic rock as well as some of their own songs.

I don't think I've been there since it's been remodeled.

We pretty much can be found at Yea all the time now.
